He's not shite, he was Bruced for 2 years and didn't train or get any coaching at all. No surprise he's looked decent last 2 games after being coached and playing in a better setup. Happy to see how he develops next year and then get rid. Cant believe amount of people that would complain about this. Complain when they give Ritchie and Gayle new deals ?

Sensible decision. Gives him enough time to prove that he can step up and if he can’t, it ensures he’ll have enough time on his deal for us to get a decent fee in.

Have some slight hope he’ll kick on, but he’s already a useful back up option as it is so more than okay to still be here.

He was outstanding under Rafa, so have no doubt he can get back to that level being coached by Eddie

He was canny under Rafa. Outstanding is a bit of a stretch.

He was being talked about for the England team and in the same sentences as Declan Rice

He had about 5 good game under Rafa, and hasn't had 5 good games since Rafa left

He has improved in recent games tbf, but he has largely been dump for the last 2/3 years.

No point letting him go and sign a similar player to be a back up, homegrown and local too. Makes a ton of sense and we can move on in 1-2 years and get a fee if he's not progressed.

I thought there was a rule that each team has to have so many home grown players?

Anyway I think there is a player in there and we are going to have to use squad rotation over the next few years as we become more successful.

the way the longstaffs were treated by bruce off the pitch must have really gotten to him.

looks much happier and he'll develop with guidance.

never a world beater but a solid squad memeber for where we are at the moment.

Bit of an exaggeration that he hasn’t had 5 good games since Rafa left. Who actually has been good after 2 years of Bruce’s coaching that was in their early 20s?

No problems with us getting this lad an extension if it saves us from going out buying other English/British players. He'll get a good pre-season with Howe's coaching team and will be better prepared and ready to go next season. Any form similar to that he had under Bruce, then yes, it'll be time to flog him but I doubt anyone can have any resemblence to how they played or were managed by Bruce.

Not worried in the slightest. Showed great improvement the past month. Counts towards our home grown and if we adequately replace we will now get a fee for him.

I do wonder if there is much of a future for him, willock and certainly shelvey. I expect they all stay next season (maybe we shift jonjo) but can't see them staying past that.

This contract gives him incentive to prove he deserves to stay.

If you checked out the homegrown requirement listed by different bodies, you won’t complain.

EPL requirement: 8 out of 25 players above age 21 has to be homegrown

UEFA requirement: in addition to the above, 4 out of 25 players have to be promoted from the clubs own youth system

Look at our squad. Only Longstaff and Dummett are qualified under UEFA version.

Woodman

Dummett

Longstaff

Anderson

There's your 4 if we get to Europe any time soon. Can't really argue tbh, Dummett, Longstaff and Anderson are / will at least be solid squad players. Woodman still has a chance, but he's going to be another Harper if he doesn't leave soon as there's near zero chance he ever has a run in the team.

Not true. As those four will also qualify as HG.
