Fabian Schär - signs a one year contract extension on reduced terms (Official)

Hope he stays and I hope we recruit a young 19-22 year old CB this summer who can learn off him this coming season whilst he provides valuable cover.

An old codger, albeit a beautiful old codger, coming back from a long term injury.

Personally, I'd rather give him a massive send off, kiss him with tongues and say thanks for the memories.

Our previous "cheerleaders" such as Lascelles, Krafth, Dummett were never anywhere near being in our best XI and were always bit part players

Schar still has qualities for us to use

He was on the decline before the inury. He'll do well to get back to that level. 4th choice in a no Europe season is pretty much supporting from the sidelines, especially in a Howe team since he doesn't rotate. If he's happy with that, then it's not a bad thing. If we sign another cb and he goes 5th, then he might as well leave or take up coaching.

People are really underestimating how much losing handsome lads like Callum Wilson and Jamaal Lascelles has effected our confidence and swagger.

Now Krafth and Trippier have gone, Schar leaves and we're running a massive risk of being a genuine 7/10 squad.

Given the holes we need to fill elsewhere, I’d not be surprised if we went into the season with Botman, Thiaw, Burn, Schar as the 4 CBs. I’d like to sign a promising young CB who could eventually move into the starting XI, but I think we’d have to land on a good deal.

The lack of mobility in 3 of our 4 cb options has always concerned me. Especially when Trippier was playing as well.

Sob along with Thiaw we could probably do with another younger more athletic option in there who can learn from the others experience.

Except Bassong was a bit shit.

He was quality. Easily a top 10 team Premier League level player that was only signed as a 4th choice at the time on the cheap.

Well he wasn't, he was perfectly decent. Apart from the attitude

Great news. Was playing at the same level he's always played at and suffered a freak injury, wasn't performance related.

Can't wait to see more of those beautiful diags next season :indi:

Thiaw by far the most overrated player in our team, he’s part of the reason the defence was worse this season. Hes good but not great
