From everything we’ve seen so far, it is fair to say that the lad likes an accessory.

I suspect that is in case he scores. It's strapping to protect his wrists when doing somersaults.
xLiaaamx
Maybe the strapping and protection is a psychological thing.
SiLvOR
Fairly frustrating performance. Good runs, great energy, lack of end product. One great pass for Wilson though. I keep comparing him to Ben Arfa, which I shouldn't, but I just wish Hatem was here and in his prime still
Dr Venkman
It’s a natural comparison to make IMO, I often wish the same when I see ASM give it away for the tenth time in ten mins.
Yorkie
ASM is explosive, exciting and unpredictable but I think Hatem was comfortably the better player. I feel like he was a lot more deliberate and planned and his decision making was generally better; whereas I think Maxi just seems to go wherever his legs are taking him. HBA had a fiercer shot and was a better passer too.
Kid Icarus
I didn't know there was ever a debate over it tbh. HBA was by far the better, more naturally talented player, but that's not really a criticism of ASM.
Yorkie
I swear that commentator on the American coverage always calls him San-Maximum btw. Pain in the arse.
frankpingel
I've, kind of, stopped getting excited when he picks the ball up as it invariably ends with nothing positive. HBA always kept me enthralled, obviously failed more than he succeeded with the ball but the anticipation and hope was always present. I haven't given up on ASM but he needs to step up a level. Pope was very alert though and got to the second one first.
Joey Linton
The biggest difference is that we aren't playing with the only tactic being that everything goes through him and no one else. For all the results haven't been brilliant yet, we are at least trying to mix the threat up a bit. Coming up with a style of play that isn't just "give it to Maxi and herwp" is our best chance of survival, especially given his injury record. bobbydazzla
Spends too much time remonstrating with himself after his run or shot comes to nowt. Needs to stop that shit and get straight back into a defending mindset rather than theatrically waving his arms about and shaking his head in frustration that he failed to score a worldie, again. Newcastle Fan
He's still one our main assets, he hasn't been producing as much lately but having him on the team is a massive threat and gives other teams a lot to think about, hopefully he can starts adding more goals and assists to his name in the upcoming period. Weird Scots-Anglo hybrid accent he's got. As for Maxi, he's massive asset. I do worry that he seems frustrated at things not coming off, but I think as we start to have those tougher away games he could be massive on the break. Raconteur
I was impressed by the way he linked up with Joelinton - finally looking like two blokes who'd been working together for two an a half years. I feel the criticism is a bit harsh and have no doubt Howe will get a lot more out of him.
GWN
Just yesterday anything positive going forward still comes via him, he is massive to us
MrRaspberryJam
He could do with giving that shite a knock on the head mind. Magpie
He's looked a bit tried in the last couple of performances. Hopefully a bit of a break after having three games in a week will see him rejuvenated.

mighty__mag
Feel like with whatever Eddie has done with Joelinton, he could do with working with ASM. Must be challenging to tell a player with everything he needs to improve, but if ASM worked on his shooting and finishing he could be on hell of a player. I also think his knowledge of when to release the ball needs a bit of work, but I think that's an issue across the whole side, there's a bit of a lacking from a few of term, they work the ball into opposing boxes, and then fail, with either spending too long, wrong ball, or panic and it goes from a dangerous opportunity backwards towards our own keeper again, and then the attack needs to be built up again! bowlingcrofty
That dinked ball in to Wilson reminded me of Bellamy’s first in the 3-0 over Villa in 01/02. Superb. Other than that, it was a pretty frustrating game from him.
