sushimonster85 Posted April 8, 2022 Share Posted April 8, 2022 I feel like a chunk of the fanbase live in some alternate reality, or 2/3 seasons in the future, where maybe we have the squad depth to actually entertain the idea of not playing our best attacking threat. I get that he can be very hit or miss, and a defensive liability at times, but the fact of the matter is we win more games when he plays. That isn't a coincidence. Even when he is having a poor game he can either generate something out of absolutely nothing and turn a draw into a win, or defeat to draw. Burn has won us far more points than he has cost us, and even in the matches he has made mistakes he has performed very well for the majority. His contribution to our improved defensive performances has been massive. Also, there's nothing unfair about the criticism of ASM whatsoever, he needs to iron out a few things. People get frustrated when he attempts to take on 3 players in his own half, despite a pass available, and then loses the ball and we concede or are under pressure. As everyone acknowledges, he has talent. But he’d be a far better player if he knew when to release the ball and when to try one of his majestic runs. Nobody cares about ASM trying things, he just needs to learn when to do those things, to release the ball when multiple players are trying to crowd him out, and to be more engaged when we press.
