We have t played that formation before have we?

No we haven't. Not since Keegan's version with Owen playing behind Viduka and Martins

It's blatantly something Jones has identified as suiting the players we have, and why he was giving so much instruction, while the Steves were all looking dumbfounded

No chance

Wilsons role pulling out wide also reminded me of a similar thing Martinez did with Lukaku at Everton. Jones would have been there at the time too.

All making a lot of sense now.

Compare and contrast in that gif and our previous games

Graeme, identifying something not going right - steps up to touchline and gestures, shouting instructions with meaning behind them

Bruce, identifying something not going right - sulks with hands in pocket, begins mentally prepping for sheepishly acknowledging  in post-match interview that our sleeves weren't rolled up enough.

It's ridiculous

Fuming at the thought of Bruce getting any kind of credit for any of this

Secondly, Graeme Jones keeps the use of the striker who tends to drift wide more often,

Wilson today?

Yeah and Fraser too. Both were upfront with the freedom to drift into the channels. Like his Luton tactic below.

Fair point. Just thought with how much of the ball Almiron saw today, that's probably where we'd want ASM to be long-term so he can impact games and draw in opponents.

Fraser was decent when he got the ball, but he seemed the least involved from open play. (Just checked the stats and he only had 29 touches, including set pieces, though I appreciate he went off after 67 minutes. Quick mafs says that would've been 39 if he'd played the full game. Maxi only managed 6 touches in 28 minutes in that role thereafter.)

The contrast between the two, here..

Somebody go try and decipher what Agnew is going on about there.

A stupid, clueless bunch of Steves right there.

By the way, someone we hated previously also liked to give a thumbs up the way Jones did at the end there.

It'll be interesting to see how this develops for sure.

We may even at some point see Fraser where you have Hendrick and then Joelinton in the hole with ASM and Wilson upfront.

Shelvey and Hendrick got forward a fair bit today and were okay, replacing them with Almiron and Fraser in those spots would be even more effective. Both attacking wise and even defensively as they are both more mobile and we are pressing from the front now.

Sneaking Big Joe on the pitch, you rascal.

;D

Think he has played some fantastic through balls in his time here. Might do well in there with a bunch of players getting forward around him and under a manager with a clue.

Cool with any of the setups proposed though, think any would work well. Just wish Bruce was out of the picture completely!
