The fact is we’ve won a European trophy whilst finishing 4th and with almost the lowest net spend in the league and having to battle with unreasonable PSR.

If that’s in some way foreboding then I don’t know how anyone is supposed to just enjoy football.

Quote

Good games are voluntary. Players decide to take part – and to sign up to the scoring system – because they want to enjoy what the game has to offer, not because they feel they have no other choice. Good games advertise their essential arbitrariness rather than trying to conceal it: the rules exist only so that the game can be played. Bad games hide their arbitrariness, dress up their rules as having an independent legitimacy and aim to trap players into taking part. Think of all those universities and colleges spinning their wheels trying to rise up the rankings. Many would much rather not be playing that game. It’s time-consuming and expensive. But they have to pretend it’s meaningful in order to motivate themselves to invest the necessary resources. And once they start down that path it is very difficult to stop.

IIRC, the only genuine ITKs are Shadowpuppets and back in the day Golfmag.

Who was the other one as well who was bang on for a while, his last one was the timing of Bruce being sacked and then he seemed to drop off?

I can only go off their results since becoming owners.

Off the pitch slow with infrastructure but new training ground clearly on the way and a lot of investment into the current one.  Commercial revenue has increased significantly year on year. Significant investment into the playing squad which has gone exceptionally well apart from one poor window.  Poor governance of senior management at the club but on the face of it they’ve tried to fix it - we will have to see on Hopkinson. Clearly doing a lot with academy investment as evidenced by a big uplift in performance at that level.

On the pitch two CL campaigns and a major domestic trophy.  I don’t think it’s gone perfectly but when you assess it overall it’s more positive than negative. The next 18 months - 2 years will be interesting

Wasn't there a Mike Ashley character that was dropping nuggets about the takeover?

As it stands there are 7 Premier League clubs who have yet to sign a front of shirt sponsorship deal -Newcastle, Chelsea, Villa, Forest, Hull, Ipswich and Sunderland. Audi sponsoring Villa remains entirely speculation, and their shirt went on sale today without a sponsor

You've got 3 major clubs without sponsors there, I can't remember that ever happening before, so that says to me that it's not just a case of our commercial team being incompetent, there is a wider issue.

Yeah, I asked this yesterday, not sure what's going on. Possibly budgets at big companies are being squeezed and they're less willing to drop multi millions on sponsorship deals, not sure.

In addition, I doubt many of our fans would be happy if we had the sort of sponsorship deal that's recently been struck by Fulham, Everton, Brentford and Palace with random trading/job search/tech companies.

Bournemouth with Vitality Insurance have done well though.

I stand with @r0cafella. Fuck PIF.

The thing is, I'm just comparing the many public pronouncements to what they are actually doing.

If the goal is to be "number 1" then looking for an external partner for our shirt sponsor with the going rate being 50% of what we get from our current related party deal... It's just unfathomable to me.

Convinced that was actually him. Didn’t he announce it on Twitter before anyone else? Like The Rock announcing Bin Laden being done in

I'm convinced it was at least someone very close to him.

I’d imagine with data collection companies, online advertising, and AI they are in a position where they can do more effective targeting adverts than lumping millions on a sponsorship deal hoping someone see’s it and buys the product/service.

With gambling being effectively banned now, and many AI and crypto companies being built on sand with the aim that a big player snaps them up or they can cash in on the stock market, they will be less likely to lump millions on advertising as well.

You're taking that 50% thing on face value from what someone on here said though.

At the end of the day that figure has come from someone who says he is connected to a company that were negotiating a sponsorship deal with NUFC - thats not too far off "my mates cousins sister knows someone who knows someone who works in the canteen" type talk.
