It's just so frustrating as he's such a good chap. Really bright and sensible.

Wish he had a bit more about him tactically and when you listen to him it's really surprising that he's pretty much a one trick pony and how stubborn he is in his approach to football.

Not sure if he'll ever evolve tbh.

We'll see, but I doubt it. Hope I'm wrong. Again.

Doesn't seem to be learning and feels like he's peaked. I don't know how much patience the board shows in him with so much changing behind the scenes. I don't know who has his back, and I wonder if that is creeping into the players.

Has an inevitability about it all. Can honestly see Jose rocking up here in the next 6 weeks. He'd do alright for a while, but we'd be back to this point when he goes stale.

Meh. PL have fucked us and Howe all over. Just doesn't seem like it's worth being arsed anymore.

He’ll be here this season but I have a feeling he’ll get the chop if we don’t get Europe.

Don’t worry we’ll turn up against a top 6 team soon and everything will be back.

Think it suits him to play against the better teams, we don’t have majority of possession, can sit deep and play on the break.

Playing at home against a deep lying defence we haven’t got a fucking clue, only 2 shots on target tonight tell the story.

We should have been home and dry in the first half, we were all over them but for a decent final ball.

Silly mistake, let a goal in and exactly the same as brighton; they perk up and we fade...

I thought the players heads and energy just went in the second half.

We don't have a player who can unlock defences and that sort of player costs a huge amount.

I don't really blame eddie because allnof our midfield and our defence were a shambles tonight.

Kelly, livra, bruno, joes, gordon all went missing... what can he do?

It wasn't the loss though, it was the total lack of control in the game. Something we hoped we'd seen the back of after the last couple of wins. We were all over the place, and that is always going to come back on the manager.

I’d say we controlled 2/3 of the first half and probably up until the 2nd goal, we seemed to tire early. Isak & Bruno especially, probably the International break to blame for that. Their midfield outplayed ours which was where the game was won, Willock had one of those games that he’s prone to, can’t trap a bag of cement etc etc.

We struggled when trying to chase it when it went 2 down, gaps appeared as you would probably expect. A bad night all round really, if we score to make it 1-1 before half time I think we go on to win the game. Onto the next one.

I'd blame the manager if any of this was his fault.

Needed to buy players. Weren't allowed to buy players. Stuck with players that aren't good enough. Totally limited in what he can do. Can't alternate because the fringe the 'bench' isn't good enough.

One fit striker *near permanently. Has to play a free transfer plank because three defenders are out.

None of that is his fault.

I just wish we could play at consistent high level without feeling like every player has to put a 12km shift in to win a game. If we're not forcing mistakes it feels like we don't know what to do when we're carrying the ball forward.

Mind we should have put a few away tonight.

Think the players let him down badly tonight. I don’t buy the notion they are badly coached, certainly not the extent to put that shift in. Some senior players’ attitude stunk today.

Unfortunately I agree. This would slow down an already significantly slowed down project and a disaster.

I can see Isak leaving in the summer. Anything below 7th, Eddie has to go.

Who you are playing and expectation levels have such an impact on things. Could have got away with a spirited defeat to Arsenal, a draw at Forest and then a big win tonight and the mood would be better. Despite getting less points.

As it is. We got 6 slightly unexpected points in the bag after two very good performances and results. But hen serve up one of the most pathetic second half showings I have seen in a long time.

I suppose it feels more concerning because we’re not actually building momentum and we have seen that type of clueless performance when going behind a bit too often under Howe.

The first half was actually pretty good. But then we just capitulated and completely ran out of ideas again.

Proper cliched, Sunday League stuff. But once we went to 4-4-2. I lost count of the amount of 50/50’s, headers and 2nd balls we lost. They were first to everything and should have won by more in the end.

This place is a fucking nightmare.

Why are we the only set of fans that aren't allowed to criticise the manager after an odd performance at home, against a struggling side who are / were about to sack their own manager after we've already seen this exact sort of performance a couple of times already this season?

Who could have predicted your response to that reaction. Why don't you contribute to the discussion instead of trying to sneer at other people's opinions

Hmm... Hope Willock is back pronto. Felt confident going into halftime, did not feel confident when I saw he was replaced with Barnes. Saw the unwelcome return of our old friend, the horseshoe. Obviously, a dreadful second half once all was said and done.

This. If we miss out of Europe again, then it will be seen as not progressing.

Even without the season we gained CL football, the plan would have been to have European football either last season, or this season.

I don't know if the Jan window is a point in time where the board forces a decision on themselves. Howe will want specific players, and if that doesn't align with the board, then the decision to make a change will most likely happen. I also think if Howe doesn't get the players he wants, it becomes a standoff creating a bigger divide. One things for sure, we can't buy Howe players and sack him in the summer. Well be spending years loaning the likes of Kelly out at our expense, we could do without another one or two of them.

We are too predictable as others have said no plan B.  When we sell a Bruno or Isak I don’t trust him (if he has a say) to spend well.  Can’t believe how bad Kelly looked the fact we are still playing Murphy the fact we signed barnes instead of a right winger with about 5 options on the left

And Howe wanted Tonali (55m), but would rather play Longstaff.

We've seen it in too many games this season. Push high, lose possession through poor control and get cut to ribbons on the counter.

I'll always defend him but there's no denying that - in terms of trying to impact the game positively - he totally shanked it tonight.

On another night, the individual errors don't happen and the onus isn't suddenly put on him to tactically manoeuvre our way back into it. I can't blame him for Kelly's defending or Gordon's sitter. But the second half was a complete mess.

We started very well and the general identity of the team is still in his attacking, high-pressing, play 'til we die image - and that'll bring far more good nights than bad. But I can empathise with those wondering if this is still moving in the right direction. The mitigation is of course in the fact we didn't back him in the summer.

The most worrying thing is breaking the SJP illusion. We've been nigh on unbeatable here but just been made to look very ordinary by a decent-not-special team, not long after being beaten by another close rival. That's not good for him.

You come out with this every time though. We were all in agreement we needed to start this season very well. We’ve had pretty much the easiest start possible and we’re 10th. Something is intrinsically missing despite one player missing from the starting Xl.

Not simply the loss that's concerning it was the manner of it. Yet again the whole thing turned into a mess and it's happening a bit too often to pass it off as just another one of those days. His players/forwards let him down and chances should have been taken but the shape was completely off, play was sloppy, basics were poor, defending was disorganised and by the end of the game they looked clueless. Their goals came at bad times for us but it's up to the manager to get the focus back and change things to have a positive impact. The changes tonight made it worse and worse. I'm back to fearing for him again after than, that was a horrendous day at the office for him
