He’s explicitly saying we don’t have PSR problems and we need to sign players. The ball is firmly, and publicly, in “their” court now. Howe has made himself beyond bulletproof so there’s no excuse for the club and the transfer team to not fully back him. ..and to do business quickly
alexf Posted Monday at 02:12 Share Posted Monday at 02:12 I hope he's not having to say all this stuff publicly because there is any doubt Mitchell and the club aren't fully committed to doing business this summer? The club and Howe should be totally aligned and in sync you would hope.

Ronaldo Posted Monday at 04:46 Share Posted Monday at 04:46 Either him or Slot for manager of the season. Really don’t see how Nuno comes into the conversation with what they’ve spent over there and the fact they’ve only made Conference League.
The College Dropout Posted Monday at 07:02 Share Posted Monday at 07:02 Howe Pretty much said himself we weren’t right mentally yesterday - tried to force it too much considering the occasion. That’s a bottle job. Don’t want to labour that point. Great teams can bottle it sometimes and we’ve stood up when it counts so many times this season, think being favourites worked against us. But we have to be able to call a spade a spade. Thankfully things fell our way. And maybe Yasser would’ve realised some of the massive gaps in the squads quality and make sure Eddie is backed properly within the rules
Yorkie Posted Monday at 07:06 Share Posted Monday at 07:06 We have to, do we? There's no alternative - we have to call the team bottlers. Just seems unnecessary, they deserve plaudits and nothing else imo.

They bottled yesterday, that doesn’t make them bottlers - I hope that makes sense. Losing your nerve once out of 6 occasions doesn’t make you a bottler. Holding your nerve 5 times proves that you aren’t. But equally, you did bottle it that one time. Man U 2012 bottled it. Nobody talks about it much because they are definitely not a team of bottlers but they did it that season. Truthfully we were in danger of bottling it against Chelsea. We got nervy. Bondedcrown Posted Monday at 07:52 Share Posted Monday at 07:52 Could you explain in detail how we “bottle” it have you talked to the players where they explained the reasons for the poor performance? Also you said “you” when talking about our failure to win the league in the nineties? Does that mean you have only just begun supporting “us” recently? AyeDubbleYoo Posted Monday at 07:55 Share Posted Monday at 07:55 We learning how to be an elite team with an elite mindset, but we’re doing it without a full team of elite players. And plenty of unfit lads as well. When we’re a little bit nervy I guess we don’t always have the ability to just play our way out of it.

Optimistic Nut Posted Monday at 09:01 Share Posted Monday at 09:01 I think we're good enough to keep getting the sort of points we get from the top 6, really would love to beat Man City or Liverpool at some point, like Think having so many points lost 8th to 14th this season gives us a realistic chance to pick up another 10 points or so next season, as long we keep beating the fodder. Cronky Posted Monday at 09:10 Share Posted Monday at 09:10 I'm pretty sure Slot will get it. It usually goes to the guy who wins the Premiership. I think Slot inherited a good situation though, and obviously benefitted from Man City's slump. Hopefully one day Eddie will get the recognition he deserves. He took on a team that looked certain to go down, took us to the Champions League twice and ended a 70 year wait for a domestic trophy. We are so, so lucky to have him. Cup finals twice with a cup win! Unbelievable. I hope they rearm him well this transfer window. Let’s see how high the bar is with reinforcements. Andy84 Posted Monday at 09:37 Share Posted Monday at 09:37 Reflecting on the job Eddie has done this season, it’s still massively underrated imo. But just for context these are the issues off the top of my head he navigated in the summer and still delivered a trophy and CL football - • Lost out on Tosin to Chelsea. • PSR debacle. Having to sell 2 players who would have helped this season. • Key players being linked away. Gordon especially. Clearly caused tension in the club as evidenced by player interviews later. • Club went through some significant change. Amanda leaving, Mitchell and Bunce arriving and having to work with a new dynamic. • On Mitchell, he gave that strange interview where he appeared to criticise our previous transfer dealings. Eddie handled all this masterfully. • Eddies own interview in Germany. He essentially hinted at needing support. Something clearly wasn’t right. • More longer term, but no first team improving players signed in 3 windows. • The Marc Guehi saga. No more needs to be said. • I remember an article from Hope when the window ended. It hinted at trouble behind the scenes, probably not far off the truth. • Started the season with Burn and Schar at CB, love them but they started in 22/23 and Botman was signed to improve this. He started the season injured and had months to go. • January - more players leaving. Right to sell but the squad still weaker. The man is elite. He makes mistakes but what he’s done is incredible. Please get this summer right and give him the tools he deserves.

I think sometimes you just need to give credit to the opposition. Under Moyes Everton are a different prospect. And sometimes you can have an off day yourself. Think Isak was carrying an injury and has been for a while. Probably a few others too we don't know about. But over the course of the season with all the ups and downs, we earnt that spot and really turned up in the Cup and that Chelsea game in particular. Howe won't like any defeat and he'll be honest about learning things. That's really not a bottler, and if you look at his team there are so many who have outperformed AGAIN. Wouldn't say any of them are either - they've earned it, and the table proves it. So, he also got it right by saying you have to look back over the whole season and not just one game where the better team won. If I voted for manager of the season from the teams above us given the circumstances, I'd say it's only really Slot. Or from the teams below, maybe Emery, personally. What you want to do in a game like that is enforce your game. But we were off it in the press. Then you want to at least PLAY - get thedown and do what you do. But we couldnt get that off either. With a higher technical floor. This will become easier to do. So will having a bigger squad where we can maintain better fitness levels. 21 minutes ago, r0cafella said: I can't wait to see how he handles squad management and squad rotation. This new CL format means you really need a squad. 2 hours ago, Bondedcrown said: Could you explain in detail how we “bottle” it have you talked to the players where they explained the reasons for the poor performance? He was fully honest and transparent - usually he’s guarded. He knows he’s done a wonderful job this season with a thin squad. Now he needs management to make it happen for him.
