I don't really understand the sensitivity to criticism - doesn't mean I don't fancy Eddie as the manager here for a long time to come

Some convenient injuries left off the list though - eg, Sven blowing his knee out (sidelining him for a third of the season) in an 8-0 blowout against a relegation side, Callum and Isak missing a combined 2 months due to fatigue/fitness-related injuries, Willock rushed back and unfit and re-aggravating. Not an attack on Eddie lads, but surely we don't disagree he could've rotated at least a bit, and that that would have mitigated some of our issues

Who and when? Rewriting of history from some, when players got injured others were also usually missing.

None of us know the Botman situation unless you’ve got inside information, we’re rotating two strikers so his hands are tied to an extent and rushed Willock back?? Says who? Youve just come to that conclusion on your own?

Some of these criticisms are weak.  Like Botman playing Sheff U away is perfectly reasonable.  Trippier played 80 odd minutes in that game and he should’ve been off after an hour - I think that’s fairer criticism.

The rushing players back from injuries is an issue.  Particularly Isak who hasn’t looked fit.

Is it possible to think he is flawless, perfect and gorgeous while also hoping that he will have learnt from his season and start rotating the squad early in the season as a precaution to avoid injury problems like this season so we don't have to have three keepers on the bench even if we were to have a few freak injuries?

acute injuries like that can be the tail-end result of playing with fatigue - just because you didn't pull up with a hammy doesn't mean the injury has nothing to do with fitness levels

You're right, but the initial list of absentees that led to the lack of rotation and fatigue were unforeseeable.

For the benefit of the cheap seats.

"I don't think it takes much of an internal investigation,” said the Magpies boss, who will once again assess the walking wounded before selecting his squad for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final at Chelsea. “The problem we've had is because we've had injuries to start with. The early ones we picked up, it meant our squad has just not managed the games.

“It’s been impossible to, we’ve had to pick the same players continually and eventually those players with the load that they’re playing under will break, so I think we’ve just been a victim of circumstance.

“Don’t get me wrong, there have been mistakes made and there will always be mistakes made medically because it’s that kind of profession. You’re not going to get every assessment right. A lot of the time, you’re in the hands of the specialist.

"But the weight of games we've had – and it’s still unrelenting for us – we just haven’t recovered properly.”

everton or spurs away, i would have been happy for him to play a weakened team.

i know we're desperate for points but it may have helped is in the long run.

luckily Eddie, like KK, isnt built like that.

Press conference on SSN just now, said:

- Joelinton and Schar don't look too bad but he's reluctant to confirm that til they see the scan results today

- Botman has recovered well, they need to decide if/when he's ready to start

- Trippier will be in squad for Chelsea but has a knock, need to see how he is in training

- Anderson went to a specialist for a review, injury is healing slowly

- Targett is on target with rehab after surgery

- Had some hard League Cup draws, determined to progress and create more memories

- Have a bond with competition, thinks last year has helped us with the games this year

- Game on Saturday was important mentally for us to re-focus, not be too emotional about setback versus Milan

- All players are popular as there is a good camaraderie but certain players lift the team and Botman is one of those

- Everyone at club rates Botman as a footballer highly, he gives confidence to everyone around him on the pitch

- Isak had a scan last week, groin problem only minor but they are being cautious. Has a chance for tomorrow

Would like to rotate some of the players that have played almost every game recently (Lascelles, Tino, Gordon etc), but also remain a competitive XI, something like:

Karius

Krafth

Dummett

Burn

Hall (if he eligible, Tino if not)

Miley

Longstaff

Bruno

Ritchie

Miggy

Wilson/ Parkinson
