This would have been run past the buyers as well, wonder what made them agree to it.

I imagine he'll be on comparatively shit all of a basic salary so keeps a local lad around for relative pennies. Low risk. :dontknow: Low reward too ofc.

I would imagine that until they are officially set up as new owners they'll leave the smaller deals to the current administration, so that would be Charnley.

Newcastle are poised to complete their first signing of the summer, agreeing a deal for goalkeeper Mark Gillespie.

The 28 year-old Tynesider is a free agent after his deal with Scottish Premier League side Motherwell expired and returns to the club he played for as a schoolboy.

Released by Newcastle aged 16, Gillespie joined Carlisle United and made his senior professional debut for them in May 2010.

Spending time on loan at Blyth Spartans the following season, Mark returned to Brunton Park to feature regularly before moving on to Walsall in 2017.

After a year at the Saddlers he made a free transfer switch to Motherwell and spent two years at Fir Park, latterly playing alongside loan Magpie Rolando Aarons.

Gillespie's imminent arrival increases speculation that Karl Darlow's time on Tyneside is drawing to a close, while raising question marks about the future of Freddie Woodman.

Rob Elliot is set to end his time at SJP when the current season concludes.

Been linked with him for months now. Hard to sign decent 3rd choice keepers though, so meh.

Aye. Scott Carson and Andy Lonergan are in the same post at Liverpool and City for example.

Every club needs a Lionel Perez, Tony Caig, John Karelse type who’ll be happy to come in and occasionally be sub keeper.
