Hes never here. Mad how little I’ve come to care about all of it. Thought Sven looked absolute top tier, a transformational centre back. Any time you think hes on the way back turns out hes got another 3 months on the sidelines. And then we go out and buy injury prone players for our first 11 on purpose 😅 at least I don’t live in Vancouver anymore, nothing beats that

Its the ‘bumper new deal’ thing which hacks me off - we don’t know the lad will ever be fit again, we definitely don’t know if he’s anything like the same player (he didn’t exactly pull up any trees when he did appear), it’s a cheek if he’s running around expecting a pay rise.  He’s 26 next month and still hasn’t won a single international cap.

Agreed although different players entirely there needs to be a decision to stick or twist with the likes of willock and botman both 25/26 both with a couple of years left you either back them with a new deal or sell while they have an ok current contract length.

Based on botmans first year I never ever thought I would considered selling but 2 years worth of injuries and my pettiness for his rat loving I wouldn't mind going back out for a fresh face.

Issue with that all the older players that also need sorting we already have major surgery to do in the back 5 next year or two. Saying that we cant allow him to run his contract down  the summer is going to be a big decision for the club if we haven't announced an extension by then.

Probably get pelters for this but he's not been the same since the original 4th place finish season - either injured or mediocre with the very occasional solid game. Can't be relied on to be a starter CB if we are to push forward. If there's someone better on the market next summer and PSR allowing then we have to go for a new CB given how old Schar and Burn are now.

Probably the biggest negative of the squad over the last couple of seasons for me, love Sven and really believe he’s an elite level defender when fit.

I don’t believe in writing off injured players so still hoping Botman/Thiaw will be our future pairing.

When we signed him it really looked like a major acquisition taking our defence to another level.

Early on he was one of our main players along with the rest of the spine of Izak, Joelinton and Nick Pope.

It's a huge shame that it hasn't worked out as hoped in the longer run and if his next comeback doesn't lead to an extended run it's hard to see much of a future for him here.

That early ACL injury and how it was managed / he chose to manage it really did for him. Not assigning blame and it's hindsight and all, I accept.

And it's such a shame because on his day he was pure class. I don't know if he'd have always been so prone to other injuries before that, but given his availability since I'd probably be inclined to let him go now.

And then have to watch green eyed when he has a stellar career and never picks up another injury again.

The injury situation is looking a bit grim and it looks like it's taken something from his original form. But a full recovery isn't out of the question and a partnership with him and Malla for the future remains a tantalising prospect, here's hoping

He’s got 18 months left on his contract so if he doesn’t stay fit and playing between Jan and May, I think he’s a goner.

We'll have to take a significant hit on the fee with only a year left then. Not sure we can afford to offer him a bumper contract either given his injury plagued time here.

We should renew his contract, be crazy not to. On his day he's excellent and it would cost a lot to get someone else as good in.

Plus Schar and Burn are both getting on now so if Botman leaves that's 3 DCs we'd need.

If nothing else you renew his contract to retain his value.

I certainly wouldn't be giving him an improved contract. Really needs to prove his fitness otherwise he's just taking up a squad place (and huge salary that could be spent on someone who'll be available more often).

I'm a big fan of his. I think he's a very good player. But unfortunately he misses too many games.

Do our medical team know if hes injury prone or just been unlucky with injuries ? There is a difference.

I know it's probably not fair but upon hearing his closeness with Isak ive thought less of him, the company you keep and all. Its meant ive expected him to leave on a free at the end of his contract.  Someone will gamble on his ability hoping he stays injury free, but for us he just hasn't earnt a pay bump even with the levels he has shown infrequently
