Same. Especially considering Howe insists on playing a formation suited to pressing, but we don't actually have a single midfielder who does it well.

That says it all really, a guy we bought as a centre forward is better at it than any of our specialist midfielders.

Example of said pressing success  ?

By "someone like Schar", you mean Clark, right?

Well he’d be the preference but I don’t see us having many takers whereas Schar will have some decent European clubs interested you’d think.

Agreed, a centre back would fix a problem, a defensive midfielder would be potentially transformational. Fingers crossed its next on the list.

My worry is that so far, we've been very public with what we're doing. We've always had an idea of who's coming in, be it player or manager. There's not been a lot of talk about CMs or, more importantly CDMs, unless I've missed something concrete. I really hope we can have someone in before Leeds, because that would be transformational as you say, @The Prophet

Definitely. Even if we get 2 centre half’s and another striker it’s no good having a weak as piss central midfield

I think we are going for defenders first, then midfielders, Wood was a priority signing due to Wilson being out. We badly need a competent DCM and maybe even an attacking midfielder too, though.

It’s by far our weakest area, it effects us defensively and offensively and in a negative way, address that and the defence improves and so does the attack.

Of the CB's we've been linked with/bid for then my favorite duo would be Badiashile and Carlos. I prefer Badiashile to Botman. Doubt either will happen.

Think Milenkovic is an alternative to Carlos, and I may prefer Milenkovic as he is younger and a big time prospect too.

Kamara, Fofana, Haidara, Van de Beek, Sangare, Nunes, Guimaraes, Gerson, Zakaria, Berge, Veretout all been linked for midfield.

I'd challenge that a little.

All we can really say is that we've been very public about the things we've heard about. It's kinda hard to hear much about the non-public things we may have done, because by definition they've not been made public. There might be loads of things we've just never heard about.

Also who knows why things leak? It's not necessarily us being public about things, indeed we have no vested interest in making anything public. Agents and selling clubs have far more to gain by publicising deals because they could potentially draw in other suitors who will pay the club or their player more. We gain by keeping things private. So I doubt that any of the publicity around any of our deals have been even remotely our doing.

Milenkovic excites me a lot, from the little I've seen. I'd love to see him come.

Think result on Saturday, could be key to getting more through the door.

Win on Saturday and I think more players will be up for coming

Lose on Saturday and its likely players will think we are odds on to get relegated and unlikely to come.

“It doesn’t surprise me that they (Newcastle) think of him,” says Bruggink, a former Netherlands international who won three Eredivisie titles at PSV between 2000 and 2003.

Ibrahim Sangare.

I think Milenkovic would be a good signing. A central defence of him and Botman could be very good for years to come.

And maybe it would be easier to get Vlahovic in the summer. Bet they are good friends as they're both serbian and plays for Fiorentina.

I'm as desperate as anyone about getting new players in. I feel more at ease now though because we have a striker to start against Watford at least. It's so much better than nothing. Ideally I would have liked more obviously.

Thing is that even though we're desperate to strengthen our team we also set the tone for the future with our spending now. People say just pay this and that. IF we paid up straight away, after being held to ransom., but we pay it anyway because we can then that would send out the signals for other clubs that they can basically ask for whatever in the future. We can't just think short term, as it would also hurt us long term. We have to be ambitious, but not reckless. Have to show other clubs that we aren't gonna play ut their way, or the media's way.

I'm not that at ease myself like. We're essentially one right back up from where we were before Manchester United. We've maybe managed to get someone equal to Wilson (not convinced myself yet) but the rest of our defence and midfield remains the same. Trippier alone does not fix much.
