I think Werner operating in a sort of inside-right position with Wilson to his left and Trippier to his right could be quite a handful. Add ASM doing his various madness on the left and that would be an exciting front three.

He's also more similar to Wilson than Wood (obviously) so we wouldn't have to change our 4-3-3 to accommodate him when Wilson is out. Wood just isn't capable of playing the lone CF in that system.

The Mail and Manchester Evening News suggesting he is being actively courted by Man Utd.

They do have a Red's True Barbecue in Manchester, so anything is possible.

Express:

“TIMO WERNER refused to rule out leaving Chelsea when quizzed on his future earlier this summer.

Chelsea flop Timo Werner has reportedly agreed to take a 50 per cent pay cut on his current £275,000-a-week wages if a return to RB Leipzig goes through this summer. Blues boss Thomas Tuchel claims that he has not yet spoken to the striker about his future, days after hitting back at suggestions that Werner 'could be happy elsewhere'.

There was excitement and anticipation among the Chelsea fanbase when Werner signed from RB Leipzig in 2020. But his goal-scoring rate has not been anywhere close to what he managed in the Bundesliga, notching just 10 in the Premier League over the course of two seasons.

His downturn in form has been a mystery for many, given the ruthless streak that was on show with Leipzig during his four-season stint at the club. Indeed, a mammoth 34-goal haul in his final campaign prompted Chelsea to fork out £45million two years ago.

With the World Cup just around the corner, the 26-year-old is surely keen to rediscover his best form and is believed to be exploring his options. Bild claim that Werner has agreed to take a 50 per cent pay cut as Leipzig negotiate a loan deal with Chelsea, which is likely to include an option to buy.

Fellow out-of-form Blues frontman Romelu Lukaku also struggled to gel with Tuchel's system. The £98m man effectively jumped ship earlier this summer and joined Inter Milan on loan, with little sign of his Chelsea career reigniting in the future.

Kai Havertz and Lukaku were deployed through the middle last term, often forcing Werner to deputise on the wing. That left him unable to recreate the magic that came with playing on the last man at Leipzig, even though his finishing in the Premier League has generally underwhelmed.”

Why are so many people so keen on Werner given how badly he's failed in England so far? He's been here 2 seasons now.

Not a loaded question, genuinely interested in the answer.

Don’t forget how in Leipzig he used to play as a second strikers who drifts wide, and therefore he used his speed to exploit spaces and become a source of threat. In Chelsea, he played as a left winger in 4-3-3, and a forward who drifts wide is significantly different than a winger. Their responsibilities and roles are different. As a winger, you should help maintain possession and deliver crosses, so it is more of a supporting role, and that is different from his role back in Leipzig as a second striker, and he was pretty good back then.

It all boils down to how Eddie would want to use him in case if we are really interested.

It seems Salzburg are keeping him unless ridiculous money comes in. He's probably just keeping irons in the fire for now.

Salzburg have already said they’ll be listening to offers in the summer of 2023 iirc.

We all thought J7 was a failure in England, however…………….

so we should change to a 442 if we signed Werner then? Did Howe try this before? Like playing Wood and Wilson together

I think he's like Sterling in that his runs etc create a lot of space for his team mates. His alround contribution is underrated.
