Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

Recommended Posts

Some people on here are so binary in their thinking

They don’t seem to appreciate that every player is a person and every person will have many different wishes and motivations that will influence their decision making. And we can’t possibly know what they’re thinking

This is the real world, not Football Manager

Joelinton is approaching 29 in a few weeks, he is an absolute warrior on the pitch but picks up many injuries,  squad rotation in so many competitions is a huge huge deal, we never want to be in a position where we end up like we did in our last CL season mounting up injuries and derailing our entire season, lessons are learned every season. If we wanted a player who can fill in when we rest Isak then we'd simply be in for DLC or Danny Ings, the stage we're at now is were replacing Wilson with better than Wilson, and we're wanting a player for when Isak needs resting to be the quality coming in is or as close ( but with time to grow )

With Joelinton he will need a rest, as will Bruno and others, don't forget Bruno played nearly every game last season, he'd be on Burn out if that was expected with an even bigger schedule coming.

The other thing, to keep getting to the elite level, the quality off the bench or options to change a game you're possibly drawing or losing can be game changing, Howe will never say he didn't have the tools last season, but those games like Bournemouth/Brighton, he might have if he had better options, not forgetting we were two players down from the start of last season, one who scored past us in the above mentioned games, you could argue with extra quality Howe can do things he can't or couldn't in those games.

The thing is there isn't one set team or formation or one size fits all,  players will need to sit out and be called upon when needed.

Also you need a contingency, imagine if Isak was injured in our first game, out for months?

The bigger picture.

You're basing most of it on if you were the manager and the only formations or system is 4231 or whatever.

You don't move forward standing still.

But certainly there are options, so that if we don't get Ekitike, but another type of player, that means we are not standing still? I see we are linked with Gallagher and many others, that are not 70-80 million players. Replacing Wilson with a better player is easy, and it doesn't cost you half of your budget..

Yes, we need to improve our bench options, but even at the top they don't have players like Ekitike on the bench. They are starters and key players. Like he would be with us. He would go straight to starting line up and someone will make room for him.

Again people are forgetting about finances. We are spending something like 100-200 million less in wages than other top teams, because of the PSR rules. These things take years to change and we are only getting started

And yes, if Isak is injured we are fucked. But so was Man City when they lost Rodri, and they have money to spend. We need striker, yes, but we will not pay something like 70-80 million for one.

I’m absolutely desperate for us to get him

I've always wanted him even 3 years ago, same as with Pedro. But I refuse to get too excited while Liverpool are reportedly sniffing around.

I do see that it's possible Howe would like to bring him here though if our budget will stretch to it. He was really keen the first time round and was very disappointed it didn't happen.

Are Liverpool going to pin their hopes on Ekitike or would they rather go for Isak even in a year's time?

I accept that if we have decided to sell Isak next year for huge money, or we have already heard he is not going to sign a new deal, we get Ekitike.

Until then, I say this is bullshit.

But famously I am wrong almost as often as Shadow Puppets so...

I am hoping afer trying to get him 3 years ago we have some relationship with the player / agent

If we're genuinely after Ekitike then I would think Howe has his eye on one of two things.

1. Selling Isak

2.

Must be fucking with Liverpool’s head this. Whoever buys Ekitike isn’t buying Isak….but what if you’ve already got Isak?

Would be unreal. Some of their fans can’t conceive of a summer where they’re not ending up with Isak because Sky have told them he’s theirs for months. So for us to get Ekitike and keep Isak would send them into RTG levels of meltdown.

Imagine signing Ekitike and announcing a new Isak contract on the same day.

Would be great but I'd reluctantly accept announcing a new Isak contract a week later even if we couldn't do it on the same day.

I’m annoyed at myself for thinking and wanting this to happen  He would be so so perfect in so many ways for us. Would instantly up the level of our other players as well when you consider the extra space they will find. I need to stop now…
