:anguish: Downie saying Ekitike turned us down because we left it too late in the window for him to make such a big decision.

Massive fuck up that. Should’ve had it done weeks ago.

Parody.

We were after him for weeks, it hardly came as a surprise to him that we were interested in him

It's not a standard transfer though. He's one of the highest rated young players in Europe at the minute due to his form this season (whether deserved or not) and has teams like PSG apparently talking about him. If he continues his training and form at Reims that will only go up and he will probably be thinking he can choose his own career.

Going to the Premier League is obviously a risk for him. Especially to a club like us who don't really have the facilities or track record in dealing with young players. If he doesn't take off immediately here he'd be putting his career back.

Having a club interested in you and having a bid accepted are two different things.

The club were trying to get a bid accepted throughout the window.

It sounds like Reims compromised and eventually accepted our bid at the last minute but it was too quick for the player to make a decision on the last day. Not sure how that's our club's fault?

He looks a talent, but on reflection it would have been asking a lot of an inexperienced 19 year old from the French League to have an impact in a relegation fight.

Aye, my biggest hope from the transfer was that any half decent forward who can play out wide and likes to press should theoretically improve us.

It was a lot of money though and we could probably spend it better in the Summer if we stay up.

No, we improved our offer to meet the same demands they had throughout.

Could have made that offer a week earlier.

Also sounds like the player wasn't convinced it was the right move for him anyway.

There's stuff to criticise the club for during the transfer window but not sure this is one

You don’t think it was a mistake to chase a player throughout the whole window, placing offers below the asking price and then improving the offer on the final day without the assurances the player would sign?

Leaving us with Chris Wood as our only striker. Seems a pretty big error to me.

Sounds like something a players agent would say when he’s really just hoping to sign for Paris or another super top club; or someone who didn’t come because he did not get everything he wanted in a contract offer.

I love how people here always hav some criticism ready to go at all times.

You are totally right, especially as the rules state we can only chase/negotiate with one player at a time.

Maybe he changed his mind? Or maybe we thought we'd get better value elsewhere in the market

Maybe they should just employ you as DoF Fanny you always make these deals sound so easy.

As has been repeated many times, you don’t need to be a DoF to have an opinion as a fan.

A bit like your incorrect legal opinions, Keith.
