Really impressed with him not shying away from taking the penalty. Fair play to the lad. Well executed penalty.

He was on it straight away ready to wrestle anyone who was going to tell him otherwise.

Genuinely don’t see any argument how that’s not a pen. The ball is past the keeper and he’s swept his legs. It looked more dramatic but if he hurdles it, he loses any chance of getting the ball.

It’s all about who gets there first. And he got there. Pen every single day of the week.

Because he doesn’t have to hurdle anything. He stopped running to time collision and dragged his leg along the grass ?

stop it, man ;D

? Last thing I’m going to say is if it’s a penalty then no one should’ve complained about Madison’s. If he tripped him it’s a penalty but he engineered the contact with unnatural movement. Anyway the games gone with stuff like this it seems unfortunately.

It's a pen and he did what is expected from a striker in 2022 but it's still very much a dive/engineered foul and I hate penalties like that. Nothing to do with anyone hating on Wood.

This place has a history for closing their eyes if it's one of you doing it, most were perfectly fine with Kane and Sterling diving all over the place during the Euros. :hmm:

Also had it not been offside he scores two

That's not how it works.

If the first one wasn't offside and had stood, everything after that point would have happened differently.

How do you mean? He has to change his momentum if someone comes flying out at him? What do you think he should have done?

The way he drags his right foot means he is initiating contact even more than the keeper.

Sure, but say he does do that. The keeper is still On a trajectory straight to him? If those aren’t fouls then keepers may as well come flying into any attacker they can.

Wood could even attempt to step over the keeper like he would a sliding tackle but no, because of the position he buys the foul.

Personally thought the way he won the pen was class. It absolutely was a penalty, and he did the right thing. Best think he’s done here. Also:

Aye. Sa overcommitted and lunged in. Not sure why Wood is expected to not take advantage of it?

Stone wall pemalty and always has been.

As I said elsewhere, still crazy to me that VAR won't think to involve itself at Stamford Bridge but will chirp up when Wood scores the most Wood goal possible.

You want them to allow an offside goal stand because VAR fucked up at Stamford Bridge? Horrible take and as you said, crazy.

I fail to see why Chris wood should move to avoid a dumb keeper who made a ridiculous decision?

Yeah, he shouldn’t have to take the full impact just to get the decision.

No way to really prove that.

Because, VAR is mainly in place to ensure the top 6 sides always get a second chance to secure a win.
