It may have already been mentioned.  But his touch for the first goal is a joke.  He kills it dead with his studs and in the same motion, does his trademark stud roll over the top of the ball to get it out his feet, before playing in Joelinton.

Looks so simple and you would expect elite footballers to have a decent first touch.  But I think that could have fallen to a lot of players and the first touch would mean it didn't turn into a chance.  Certainly not one as high quality as that.

Any replays of the injury?

Showed you it on TNT but couldn't make out what happened as it was the 6 yard box was so crowded. Assume he just rolled the ankle.

Was out about 2/3 weeks when he did something similar a couple of years ago.

Pure guesswork as to how similar this is though.

I think he rolled it at home to Fulham (1-0, I**k winner) and was back 6 days later v. Palace away.

Didn't he suffer for awhile after with the ankle and there was loads of talk of him needing an op in the summer?

Might be remembering it wrong but I do remember it not being as simple as him returning and being fine. Feel like it bothered him for a while afterwards.

A slight knock probably wouldn't be the worst thing. I know the fixture list is rotten but a 2-3 week break after all the football he's played the last few years wouldn't be the worst thing.

A rest would do him some good, but a week or so is more than enough thanks.

January 2023

‘EXCLUSIVE: Bruno Guimaraes has NOT suffered serious damage to his ankle after coming off injured in Newcastle’s win over Fulham… and will be sidelined for weeks rather than months

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes will be sidelined for a matter of weeks rather than months after a scan on his injured ankle revealed no serious damage.

That could still mean he misses both legs of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Southampton – scheduled for January 24 and 31 – but Newcastle will know more in the coming days.’

Transfermarkt have that down wrong. It looks like they have listed his red card and suspension as the injury for some reason.

Like @Fak said. It was Fulham in mid-Jan when he injured his ankle. Was back straight away.

This part of his game is massively overlooked imo. Don't think we really need the lock picker people mention when we're against a low block, but more get in sync with the ball after that and pur other attackers.

Seems a pretty easy decision to rest him Sunday.

If he is fit I'd leave him on the bench.

We need to rotate anyway and Bruno plays every game so a rest now seems sensible.

I'd probably agree with that. Still worth sowing a seed of doubt into Villa's prematch plans though!
