Pleased for Targett, hope his career picks up from here.

More good work in shifting out the (harsh to say) deadwood.

Favourite moments include his tackle which led to the breakaway for Bruno's winner vs Leicester; skipping into the melee post-Schar against PSG; scoring that worldie in a brief bit of club media last pre-season.

Sad we never got to see what he was like as a CDM against Man Utd that time.

We've raised the floor of the squad; finally got a CB with youth on his side and pace. Replaced Longstaff with Ramsey. Replaced Almiron with Elanga who is also an upgrade on Murphy regardless of his numbers last season. Improved the GK department with Ramsdale.

Whilst we haven't been able to get first choice striker targets, that wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't for the Isak saga. We'd be after a lesser player than that to solely replace Wilson, which I said.

Problem is that the squad was short of numbers in 23/24 for the CL campaign, and we didn’t need to just get one in, one out - we were short before that point.

Is he back from S Korea yet?

Yes but landed at the wrong airport. Too much hassle to send a taxi down for him so just left him there in Teesside.

Good luck to him. Best memory is his ironically unbreakable leg that got a Brentford player sent off early in our win there while he was first on loan with us in 22. Was a horror tackle straight on the shin but he went on to have a good game and I remember thinking how nice it was we had such a good lad playing for us who was so resilient too!

Maybe, but that season was hit by an unprecedented injury crisis exacerbated by Tonali's ban. I'd like to think Howe, the squad and tbh the fans are now a bit more acclimatised to us regularly playing 3 high quality games a week. 23-24 was a first for many of those three.

It's the striker issue that needs sorted regardless of the craic with Isak. This could end up being a brilliant window but failure to bring in Wilson's replacement could render it almost negligent.

I get that, but I was refering to description of "unreal" compared to ok-good.

To me unreal would have been getting in all our first choices and dramatically improving the first team.

What we have done is improve on some of our 2nd choices and one starter in Elanga. Although we have to wait and see if he can better the season Murphy just had.

Ramsdale was a back up option to Trafford and likely will be 2nd choice to Pope.

Thiaw I would be stunned if he was our first choice CB target. Clearly Guehi was ahead of him and possibly the likes of Scalvini etc. He has potential but again is likely to be 2nd choice behind Schar atleast for now.

Ramsey was a good opportunistic signing potentially, but again likely to be 2nd choice to our starting midfield 3.

Then obviously the big elephant in the room is the striker situation which ofcourse will tank any progress elsewhere if we come out the window empty handed.

I think RW was only place I was expecting a starter to come in. Maybe GK eventually as Trafford would overtake Pope. Thiaw will be starter before long as well. Ramsey has a good chance to overtake Joelinton.

It’s really only the striker where we’ve done badly, otherwise it’s a good window.

Nothing Neal Maupay can’t fix.

Again though I don't disagree but you called it a good window if we get a back up striker.

My only point of contention was calling it an "unreal" window when in reality it would just be an "ok to good" one.

I honestly thought the £100,000 per week was just wild speculation (or a long running joke), but the Comical are running with it too. How on earth did that come about

Whatever the actual figure is, it’s probably higher than you would think for him because he’s had two PL club to PL club moves, and both times the buying club seemed pretty keen to get him, which usually results in being able to ask for a decent pay rise.

Shame how it worked out for him here. Seems a good lad and a good pro.

He was very good when he came on loan, a big part in us stabilising that season. Then he only had a short injury for a few weeks after he joined but the Trips, Schar, Botman and Burn back 4 just didn't concede so he couldn't get back in.

Then he never got any minutes so never probably built up his resilience and just kept getting injured.

He's coming up to 30 though, and with enough career earnings to buy a controlling stake in Nvidia he might as well play for a bit now.

Good luck to him, hope he does well.
