Brighton are already seeing inflation on their recruitment prices, although still paying the lower end for most of the talent they bring in - Copolla for about £10m or so etc.

Kostoulas feels a risk at £35m but that sort of price is pretty par for the course in the PL now days.

Think their model still has quite a bit of life left in it, esp when you consider they will probably make another massive profit on Baleba.

Think their problem will be one of being an eternal stepping stone, surprised that they never seem to have went all in on winning a cup they way we did.

Lost 1 game at home and we're in January yet people still under rate them. They're a good unit, can easily sign a few players this summer and build on from it.

0*.

They can’t have lost many games in total all season tbh. Burnley, Fulham and City? Some going at the turn of the year.

People underrate them because it’s Sunderland, but the truth is they’re a solid side who’ve shown they can compete in this league (at least for now)

They’ve been very fortunate in more ways than one but they also have competed well and took the game to far superior sides than they are. Fair play to them.

Copolla already talking about going back to Serie A with his tail between his legs. For every Caicedo or Cucarella there are lots of failed punts. But that probably suits their business model. It wouldn’t work for us.

I don't think they'll finish top 10, like. I don't think they have the ability to keep it up and teams will start to work them out. Still a brilliant season though.

They're a spoiler team having the run of their lives. It's a good strategy for promoted teams but it will have a shelf life. I would expect each season to get worse from here, but tbh if they keep their manager and don't get ideas above themselves, they should be a decent survival team in the PL.

Their ideal owner would be Mike Ashley.

Their tactic every game is to give it everything for a 0-0 and hope they'll get some luck and nick one.

20 goals in 19 games, thrilling stuff.

It'll only work for so long, eventually they'll actually have to play to win.

Not the worst tactic for a newly promoted side.

What else do you expect them to do? If they try to go toe to toe with teams they'd most likely lose

My point is more that it's either going to stop working, or get very boring watching.

This season it's more than they could have expected.

Lost at home in the League Cup, I think. They may have meant that?

Aye no problem with their tactics. They are generally a limited group and are playing to their strengths which even the good teams are struggling with. They've beat Chelsea, drew with Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool so they are doing plenty right. They try to get into a game of football against them and they'll get beat.

Problem they have is how to evolve from this and turn themselves into a team that the fans want to watch in time because they're only scoring a goal a game currently and their last 2 home games have already seen swaithes of empty seats so it's clear a lot of fans want to see a bit more attacking football. If they do that though they'll get beat.

They won't change anything this season though so those hoping for a post New Year collapse are going to be in for disappointment.

A blow for their ‘Most Respected Throughout Football’ cup hopes.

They've done far better than expected, but still expect them to revert to the mean and finish bottom half.

They have but the amount of sitters players have missed against them. Barry to put Everton two up. Evanilson stealing a goal but being off side. The City and Arsenal games they should have lost.

All the more reason to think they might not sustain it.

I dunno I think it’s been 10 years since teams on the PL witnessed that level of incest so it’s all new again. I think next year will be different though

Lack of goals always kills teams, look at us this season.

I expect us to score more and move up, I expect them to carry on the same and drop back.

Now if they sign a really good forward, which I dont think they will, who knows.

Their form is not one that can last, eventually you go behind in games and the lack of cutting edge kills you.

Better looking teams with better records at this point have collapsed before now, so its not inplausible for those suggesting that it is/isn't though I don't expect it to happen in the slightest, the league is just too turgid now. Norwich and Boro's collapses in the mid 90s (Boro from 2nd) e.g. but you didn't have half a league of settling seat fillers back then.

Exactly this. I'm sure they've stolen points by being given at least three own goals. It can't last.
