Newcastle United Season Review 2021/22

Not bumping his thread so will stick it here, Pardew's rallying call after just finishing 5th:

"I'm hoping that I will educate our fans for next season. If they think we can finish fifth with a European campaign and the finances we’ve got, it’s impossible.

I honestly believe that you need to be a bit more open with the fans. The problem some managers have is they’re not open enough.

"This year, I’m sure we’ll say something like, ‘We’re looking for a top-eight finish, hopefully attack one of the cups and have a great run in Europe.

"I wouldn’t say we couldn’t challenge for the top six if we got knocked out of Europe. Then we wouldn’t have those extra 13 games."

Patronising wanker.

Player of the Season:  Burn just nicks it. He's made a real difference.

Most Improved Player of the Season: Joelinton

Signing of the Season:  Burn

Goal of the Season (feel free to rank your top 3): Bruno v Leicester

Game of the Season:  Arsenal (H)

On the pitch Moment of the Season (we all know the takeover was the off-field most important):  Bruno goal v Leicester

Manager rating out of 10:  10, of course.

Player of the Season:  ASM

Most Improved Player of the Season: Joelinton

Most Disappointing Player: Wood

Signing of the Season: Bruno

Goal of the Season (feel free to rank your top 3):

Trippier Free kicks, Wilson: Villa, Bruno: Chip.

Game of the Season:

Arsenal Home, Man Utd Home, Everton Home.

On the pitch Moment of the Season (we all know the takeover was the off-field most important):

Howe's press and attacking tactical transformation starting to register with the players, players like Joelinton catching on very, very early, then the immediate impact the new players made, the board showing total emotion with the club, staff, players, and fans, everyone suddenly forgetting the apathy we had under Ashley, Wor Flags bringing an overwhelming atmosphere.  There were many. Heart goes out to everyone, especially Eddie Howe, committed to the cause, got covid, missed his family,  was first in the door, last out. Top top man ❤

Manager rating out of 10: 10

Season rating out of 10: 8

Player of the Season: Joelinton

Most Improved Player of the Season: Krafth

Most Disappointing Player: Wood

Signing of the Season: Bruno

Goal of the Season (feel free to rank your top 3):  1) Bruno's back heeler 2) Trippier round the wall 3) Almiron against Palace

Game of the Season: Arsenal at home

On the pitch Moment of the Season (we all know the takeover was the off-field most important):  Probably Trippier's free kick moment, but still enjoyed seeing the oil protester smacked in the face by the supporter at the Everton match

Manager rating out of 10:  8/10

Season rating out of 10:  Hard to mark this one, it was one of the worst first halves to a season I've seen for us, but the second half was one of the best. Certainly exciting since Christmas and the takeover felt like a cup win, I'm going with solid 7/10

Player of the Season:  Big Joe

Most Improved Player of the Season: Big Joe

Most Disappointing Player: Joe Willock

Signing of the Season: Bruno

Goal of the Season (feel free to rank your top 3): Wilson's overhead kick versus Palace. Bruno's diving header again Leicester. ASM against Watford, won the ball, dribbles it and buries it.

Game of the Season: Newcastle 2 Arsenal 0

On the pitch Moment of the Season (we all know the takeover was the off-field most important): Bruno buries an added time bullet header to beat the Foxes.

Manager rating out of 10:  11

Manager rating out of 10: Nine

Season rating out of 10: Seven, based on how it eventually panned out

Player of the Season: Joelinton

Most Improved Player of the Season: Krafth (Was woeful, now at least capable of being as good as Targett on his best day. Trippier must have mentored him.)

Most Disappointing Player: Chris Wood (Really wanted him to do well but managed to make Ameobi look good by comparison.)

Signing of the Season: Trippier (I feel he made the other signings possible, a massive dressing room influence leading by example and provided both inspiration and knowledge despite being out injured.)

Goal of the Season (feel free to rank your top 3): Wilson vs Burnley at home. The goal that started it all.

Game of the Season: 1-0 at home vs Burnley. Would've been a very different story if we hadn't got our first win of the season at that point.

On the pitch Moment of the Season (we all know the takeover was the off-field most important): Wor Flags at Arsenal.

Manager rating out of 10: 10/10

Season rating out of 10: 9/10 (getting thumped by the big boys wasn't that fun)

Player of the Season: Joelinton

Most Improved Player of the Season: Joelinton

Most Disappointing Player: I dont really want to pick but probably Wood. That's more in recognition of everyone else than him being particularly bad.

Signing of the Season: Bruno

Goal of the Season (feel free to rank your top 3): Bruno's header against Leicester

Game of the Season: 3-1 Everton

On the pitch Moment of the Season (we all know the takeover was the off-field most important): Trippier free kick against Everton

Manager rating out of 10: 9.5. Not drawing to Norwich and Watford and not losing to Everton would have been a 10.

Season rating out of 10: 10. To finish where we have is genuinely mental.

Player of the Season: Joelinton = Schâr.

Most Improved Player of the Season: Joelinton

Most Disappointing Player: Ciaran Clark, unprofessional, lazy and shit.

Signing of the Season: Targett (just for the 1%)

Goal of the Season: Bruno G. v Saints

Game of the Season: 0-1 @ Bellend Rd. You’re lying if you didn’t celebrate that win more than the rest. Hope ignited.

On the pitch Moment of the Season (we all know the takeover was the off-field most important): Meslier’s love of poppadoms

Additional off the pitch Moment of the Season: A fat fraud of a ‘Geordie’ cunt getting his dream  payoff and giving every single person who isn’t thick as fuck their first chance to think what might be…even if the initial answer was  Jones.

Manager rating out of 10: 10. It will sadly count against him next season.

Season rating out of 10: 8 - the stain of Bruce
