Was a very exciting time, that. We were playing great attacking football under Keegan, after the misery of Souness, Allardyce et al, and there was a transfer window under new ownership right around the corner. A top 4 challenge surely beckoned.

Owen's best spell for us was in that slightly withdrawn role behind Viduka and Martins. Looked like the only time the little cunt was arsed.

Such a shame we got Viduka when we did, was such a class player in his earlier years and even when he was at Boro. We still got some flashes of it but he was too far past it.

Apologies if already posted, but Ruud Gullit was on the Sky 'Stick to Football' podcast with Neville, Keane, etc.

This is the part where he talks about his time at Newcastle, and rewrites a bit of history.

There’s so much bullshit in this?

Conveniently not mentioning the champions league qualification twice with shearer- under sir Bobby, the relagation was years later, conveniently also not mentioning the shite players he played ahead of shearer

Was a shite manager

That Spurs away game still the greatest away performance I think I've ever seen from us. Genuinely could have scored about 12 that day.

We won 4 games. Two of them against Sunlun and Reading. Let’s not go crazy.

It was the surprise of him really managing to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Showed what could be achieved. Looked really promising for the future. Then Ashley fucked it.

Neville straight away totally and utterly perplexed at him saying we played well against them in the final.  They battered us from the off.

Think it was more the timing and the football we started playing. Thought we were going to really kick on that summer.

We also then started the next season with a really good draw at Man Utd and beat Bolton at home. Gutierrez looked incredible in that Man Utd game especially.

Things were looking really promising at that point, then the Milner stuff happened and Keegan was gone within a month.
