Spurs doing a lot of preparation and not a lot of bidding.

It feels like neither ourselves or Spurs are prepared to pay what Leicester want for Maddison. Relegated club and last year of contract.

Reading the Leicester forums a while back a lot of the fans said the club did this with Youri last summer. Set a unrealistic minimum price and negotiated themselves out of a deal.

If both clubs refuse to cave to them then I think there is still a chance we get him for £40/45m.

Spurs probably hoping we get Szoboszlai or similar so they get a free run at a cheaper Maddison.

If we're that close to breaching FFP, there's no way we spunk 60-70 million on Tonali.

Yeah, watched that FourFourTwo video this morning, which seemed to suggest a circa £75m spend as it stands, rising to £100m (ish) if we can sell someone (ASM being mentioned as current most saleable asset).

If we are spending £60m or so on Tonali, then without offloading, it doesn't marry up with rumours of us looking at other like Chiesa or Hernadez at Juve and AC respectively, or even Szoboszlai or a cut price Maddison.

I guess if decent offers come in, we'd likely listen for the likes of Miggy too, though. EH did allude (back end of last season) that we might need to understand, some favourites might need to leave the club too.

He's actually right, only slight correction is Tonali fee would be amortised over 5 years for FFP (thanks to the rule change after Chelsea went crazy)

In terms of existing players, what does help is it a players contract is extended, so if we can 2-3 years to Bruno that will help lower his amortisation fee each year

Amortisation is over the initial contract period, so extending it etc has no impact

I don't think that's right. Chelsea extended Fernandez contract just a month or two back after signing him in January to spread it out further.

Wasnt that some bollocks cause they chose to trigger, so technically part of the original contract?

Yep, 45m should get him. Maybe a touch lower if you offload one of your unwanted.

If we are amortising the Tonali contract o ver six years it will propabaly work out at 20 M per year (purchase and wages). Means we have enough for two more similar signing to keep within FFP (Maddison/Dom + Other).

Also, as every season goes by we will increase our revenue streams and will be able to spend more.

That's not true, see the example below from the swiss ramble, this was about Umtiti and his contract extentions, same would apply if we can extend some of our higher purchases

Obviously whilst the amount is lower it does then push it on to further years

So is Maddison last years target that we might go back for later on in the window if we can't get others ?

Is he going to hang around on the off chance? He'll be off to Spurs long before that you'd think otherwise he's risking them looking elsewhere and ending up stuck.

JM is good but I’m thinking that for the money they want we reckon that he is on the wrong side of 25. Welcome Szob!

But thats Mike Ashley logic right there. Man City have just paid £30m for a 29 year old. Maddison has got a solid five or six years left at the top level at least, he just seems to not want to come here.

He looks like a London type to be fair. Can picture him driving down the kings road in his lambo while his lass shops in Gucci for matching headbands

No it isn’t

It’s being smart and making good long term investments. Also, we are not City. Look at the players we have signed so far for big money. Bruno, Isak, Botman and soon Tonali. That’s players with plenty of years ahead of them as well as being high quality but yet to reach their potential ceiling. We haven’t even been linked (seriously) to many +26 players.

I like the way we are doing it. Players with plenty of years ahead of them plus very young players than can come in within a few years. Having the young talent coming through before our “stars” get too old is shrewd business. We obviously will continue to sign players for “now” too going forward. But too many expensive “old” ones would mean we have to replace them for big bucks even earlier.

Having said all the above I would not be against JM. I just don’t see us going that route unless for less money than they want.

Bruno is exactly one year younger than Maddison.
