Think we need legs in the middle like, when longy is out the team there's a massive pressure decrease.

Longstaff being out (and how much we have felt it) shows why we're so keen on Mctominay imo.

Surely there are better priced and better actual footballers with "legs" out there than Mctominay though...

We could also do with more technical players. We have so few players who are comfortable taking possession in dangerous areas.

This is the main area we need to strengthen, for me.

Bar Bruno, who isn’t as physical or mobile as the other midfield options. We have 3 other senior centre mids who are all workhorses and contribute in different ways. But none of them are particularly decent on the ball when it comes to passing, or showing for it wherever they are on the pitch (like Bruno does).

Feels like the way we build attacks is totally unbalanced and clueless, at times.

Rumours up in Glasgow you guys have been to Watch Hatate at Celtic on a number of occasions.

Likely that we won't be hold onto him in the summer, would develop well and settle in fairly quickly I would think.

Word is that it's actually Matt O'Riley we've been following at Celtic, and have been for a while, as another option as a right side number 8.

Longstaff has been out in that position lately and we've missed him a fair bit. O'Riley is particularly intriguing because he is left footed.

O'Riley has the athleticism, size and defensive intensity Howe prefers for his setup. Hatate is smaller and not as good defensively.

Hmm, clearly not a bad option. Is he going to ever be elite? I don’t think so but he would improve the squad. Wouldn’t be on my list but I also wouldn’t be disappointed with the transfer either

I find the whole "depends if we get in the CL" thing complete bollocks. We signed Isak when finished 11th and Bruno when we were looking like going down.

It might mean we sign fewer players but we were interested in Maddison etc in the previous summer. [emoji38]

I don't think we had any intention of moving for players prior to the season finishing anyway but I'd bet we have a list of targets ready to go.

CL obviously changes the budget.

Makes it easier to negotiate with players and to fight off other clubs from signing them. Other clubs wants Maddison too, but if we can provide CL and they can't, it's obviously a plus. That doesn't mean there's no chance we can land such players without CL.

Edit: I see we're discussing who the club will target and not the likelyhood that we will get them. My bad.

Well yes, but we are clearly after a certain level of player anyway. I don't see Europa League curtailing that by a great amount and our targets won't change.

I think Maddison will have a fair idea if he wants to join us.

I'd the likes of Man utd and Liverpool want him, we won't get him regardless of who is in the CL.

Maddison seemed to get along well with some of our English lads in the world cup, I also think that he is a possibility regardless.
