A football manager has been fined and suspended after taking his players off the pitch in protest at an alleged racist comment from a linesman.

Non-league Wythenshawe Town manager James Kinsey abandoned the game after comments made to a player in January.

The official was also sanctioned after the charge against him was proven, the Manchester FA said.

Anti-discrimination campaign Kick It Out said some clubs are "facing fines for standing up to racist abuse".

Mr Kinsey was handed a fine and banned for seven days, meaning he will miss the club's next match.

I'm hopeful that the sanction is simply down to the FA following the rules to the letter of the law (therefore having 'no choice' but to carry out the punishment). However, if the offence has been debated and considered before ultimately being determined as warranting such a punishment - you have to wonder if there's any hope of the FA ever truly throwing their weight behind anti-racism campaigns.

Either way, it's a bloody miserable conclusion and makes you wish folks would just use their common sense with incidents like this.

Aye, but change the law as it's a complete arse, you would think the morons would notice that mind.

I fucking hate that complaining rightly about officials where gets you fined.

He said that the ref deserved to be thumped and implied the officials were bent, man. His complaint is spot on, but he went too far just as he always does.

Tottenham have banned "several" fans for persistent standing since their new stadium opened this month.

Spurs beat Crystal Palace in the first game at the £1bn Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 3 April, and fans were warned before Tuesday's 1-0 Champions League quarter-final first-leg victory over Manchester City.

"It is important that everyone is able to see the match and enjoy it," read a Spurs email to supporters.

The length of the bans is not known.

Spurs added: "We appreciate that fans will rise up at key moments in the match.

"Persistently standing for the whole match or for long periods, along with failing to heed requests from the stewards and fellow fans to be seated, is not acceptable behaviour, notwithstanding it's against ground regulations."

Mauricio Pochettino's side, who are fourth in the Premier League, host Huddersfield on Saturday.

Come to think of it i don't remember him missing many games other than those suspensions

Makes sense though, the way he plays you can tell he's a ridiculous good professional. A lot of pulls and tears are preventable if you train properly and look after yourself and quite clearly Suarez is a great example of being a pro.
