Souness saying we should change the game to only allow 9 outfield players

I’d certainly cut it. Maybe to 10 initially but 9 would be fun. Think Van Basten suggested it a few year ago.

The same van basten that wants rid of the offside law.

Wonder how the game would be without it. The fear originally was always goal hanging.

Was actually thinking the other day about really good players ending up at strange clubs

Davids at Barnet, Sol Campbell at Notts County. Cambiasso at Leicester was an odd one at the time

Ravanelli to Middlesbrough and Klinsmann to Spurs were game changes IMO for the English league.

They really were. Bergkamp to Arsenal too.

Van Der Sar when he went to Fulham was really strange as he had accomplished so much leading up to that and was still young by keeper standards.

Yeah I thought of van der Sar today actually and Fulham was a strange move.  Mascherano and Tevez at West Ham was weird but that was obviously a bit dodgy.

Bolton having legends such as Hierro, Ivan Campo and Djorkaeff. Anelka going there too. Michel Salgado at Blackburn too

Boksic & Karembeu at the start of the 2000/1 season. Marinelli was going to be the best thing since sliced bread too.

Remember us beating them early that season where Goma scored from a mint Cordone cross and they had a banner of Karembeu's wife.

I remember when Chelsea got Gullit, Zola and Vialli all on frees when the Bosman ruling was still shaking out. Pretty sure it was before the Abramovich takeover too. Before that they were trash, with the likes of Dennis Wise and Mark Stein their stars...

It was ages before then. We still had Keegan when those guys went there!

A few of them early 'boro signings were disasters. Branco, Emerson and Karambeu were pretty dissapointing for them. They all slated the club and local area too. Relegated in 96/97 with Ravanelli, Emerson and Juninho in their team.

They weren’t exactly top players, for them of course, but in world football they weren’t. Juninho was for example was no better than Kinkladze. Ravanelli was a good striker, but not on a par with Shearer and Emerson was bang average I thought. They did play some canny stuff mind.

Ravanelli was an incredible signing. He was at his peak and he'd just scored for the winners in the Champions League final, and this was when Serie A was the place to be.

Took to the league straight away n all. I loved him.

For a nowt club Boro have at least dabbled with being ridiculous and have had some great players. Boksic was absolutely class too even if he was made of popadoms. At total odds with the Mackems who just wanted XI hardmen to play kick and rush.

Remember Boro getting a 3-3 at Old Trafford and it being a brilliant game. Didn’t really mind them at all until McClaren era.
