So Edwards, Hope and all the other journos saying it isn't a done deal like Romano were right then? I think we all chose to believe the positive story because we are desperate for a signing tbh.

Yeah, Edwards is getting flamed, but Sky and Hope said the same thing.

Once again, this is almost certainly an argument around the definition of "done." Edwards and Hope are (likely) getting information from NUFC sources that it is not done in the 100% official way (contracts signed, etc.). Romano, whose sources are likely from Watford and/or the player's agent, reported the two clubs have agreed on a fee and the player has agreed on a contract until 2028. Romano then confirmed today that the official stuff is being worked out (contract signatures, etc.).

Here's a similar order of events (somewhere around the 2nd or 3rd Romano tweet here is where Edwards would chime in to say it's "done"):

People have faith in Romano because he's well connected to Watford and some agents. Our journos will be speaking to 'sources' who are likely to be a step away from the deal, tbh, if they're not one of the negotiating or senior team (seems like the latter has shut up shop). We also appear to have a chain of command to SA which likely means we can't say much at all until everything is well lined up.

I don't think what Romano is saying is particularly outlandish and he made claims over the weekend about verbal offers which nobody on the NE journo side seems to be able to confirm or deny which doesn't exactly paint their sources in a good light.

There's a lot of semantics to all of this nonsense.

Remember the motivations of everyone involved as you look through transfer stories. Romano is a international transfer specialist, that's what he does, he has developed connections for years with agents and players who want to get their story out. Clubs certainly don't always want that information out quickly - or at all.

Local/regional journalists get most of their information from club sources, who have their own motivations not to reveal certain bits of information.

Often those two things clash and you end up with this type of situation, where both Romano and Edwards could technically be right. That's the risk of reporting on things in progress.

The likeliest thing to me is that there is a framework of a roughly 30m deal agreed with Watford but they're pushing us to include more of it guaranteed rather than as add-ons. It seems likely the deal is going to be done soon but this pissing contest amongst journalists makes the whole thing tiresome.

Edwards just didn’t like how Romano tweeted ten minutes after he pretended to know what was going on with a generic vague tweet.

The local ‘journalists’ will not like that a young upstart has come along and has an impeccable record for confirming transfers before them.

Not worried one bit about this deal. Romano isn't going to damage his reputation with the here with go shite if he wasn't completely sure. I'm not sure why people are giving a journalist who has openingly boasted that he likes to wind us up the slightest bit of attention btw. Someone who actively trolled NUFC fans on social media when we were at our lowest under Bruce and when the takeover first collapsed. He should have been black listed ages ago.

So we supposedly bid £25m plus add ons for Pedro and the same for Harrison a while ago.  It seems we either haven’t got or not willing to spend £30m more this window.

I’m sure we bid more for Maddison?

Don’t think it’s that, we seemingly have valuations of players and we won’t go beyond that.

If Miggy goes we still need Pedro and Harrison and a Striker and probably a Centre Midfielder to cover Shelvey.

Make everything so much harder for us regardless of how much we could get for Almiron.

I don’t think selling any first team players is really on the cards. Would be very surprised.

If they're one of the first team players we're already looking to replace, I can see it. Miggy for even £20m is a no brainer imo.
