Isak only wants to join them allegedly so they don’t need to worry about competition at this point Will you stop already? They made an offer last week and were surprised by the quick and firm no they received. There’s no way they are dumb enough to come back with the same or even a lower bid, and even if they were, there’s even less chance or us not laughing them out of town even more decisively than last time. Displayname
We will get fair value or we will risk selling him in January/June if it comes to that. Simple as that. Liverpool don't have that big leverage even if we get Sesko. Edited August 5, 2025 by Displayname

The level of anger from some of our players towards his behaviour has apparently been significant. I would expect there to be some frustration, which is why Howe would likely drop him from the first XI early doors, but ultimately we would be a better team with him and I’m sure all our players know that. Nothing time and a bit of Howe magic couldn’t heal.
toon25
We just need to sell him or loan him abroad. Fuck Liverpool and for fuck sake we don't need any of their cast offs.

People tend to over-dramatise everything online, but in the world of professional football, these things happen, and players will get past it once everyone is back in the same changing room. NSG
Looking forward to us encouraging them to bid before they come back to us. “Hi Arne, it’s Eddie and JT here. We know about the great history of Liverpool, and those fantastic Anfield European nights. Do you know what you’re missing? Why, the finest striker in Europe of course. Well, it’s your lucky day. We currently have one here and he’s available for £150m. Don’t let the steep price tag put you off though, we encourage you to bid whatever you like and we’ll have a chat about it. Also - about that rendition of YNWA at St James’ Park, we’d be more than happy to oblige. We’ve also issued a special edition red Newcastle United shirt for that game, in honour of our illustrious visitors. We’ve invited Fabrizio Romano to come and unveil your new striker before the game too. See you soon, and remember, ARNE SLOT NA NA NA NA NA”

However, he always keeps his cards close to his chest and there's no way he'd let on he was done with him because that would weaken our hand immeasurably. alexf
I don't pretend to fully understand psr. But does it not mean that we can't just splash out ias much as we would like to if we got a big fee for Isak due to the amortisation nonsense? So we are still paying for previous signings spread over 5 years. If we sign any new players we are then spreading their cost over 5 years of their contract on top of existing players. But with the rolling 3 year thing. If we got £150m or whatever for Isak now. We bank it all this season and then only get the benefit of it on the books for 3 seasons? Therefore once that drops off, whatever we have spent on new players. In the remaining 2 years of their 5 year contracts after the Isak sale drops off would need to be covered by large rises in revenue growth? Otherwise we are in another psr hole where we must sell another player for big money to cover the deficit?

Turnbull2000
Fuck sake. Was hoping we'd just make Isak sulk up here for 12 months rather than cave in and give him to move. Only acceptable move right now should be abroad. There's no doubt the scousers will come back with no more than £120m knowing we've got another striker in. The Prophet
It doesn't matter what's gone before. We're still in a position to stick to our valuation and should be doing so. Wishful think, but it'd be nice to see a late bad faith move or the goal posts too.

Keegans Export
We need to stick to our guns. The financial cost of keeping him is about £15m (amortisation + estimated wages for 11 months or so) so there's no benefit to selling him for £20-30m shy of our valuation. If he stays that means we don't spend £40m on Wissa then we're saving ~£12m so the difference is negligible. If we think he might struggle with motivation, well here's one of the most in-demand young strikers in the world, wearing the #9 shirt, who wants to take your spot and maybe in a year he's the one Liverpool, Bayern, Barca etc are looking at so best you don't just sulk about it. tarie4
If we get Sesko, we'll be in a much better spot with Isak, yeah? I reckon this whole thing will be sorted pretty fast after that. Either Liverpool cough up the cash, or he stays and we've got those two up front this season. If Isak leaves, we'll go for Wissa. I've got a feeling Liverpool can't afford it. Over 135 mill plus the reported 300k a week is a lot. That's a massive spend on top of what they've already done, and they still need a CB and stuff. We should know more by Friday. TRon
Can't believe that's true, would basically be handing Liverpool all the aces in the pack. Crazy strategy if we are going with that. Edited August 5, 2025 by TRon
