There’s no reason for us to fold. Our dressing room won’t allow Isak to be a dick when his move gets blocked, and the move can be there next summer for £100m+.

The optics is worth the £50m IMO.

Liverpool will try first bid, and when it’s rightly rejected, they will go for Rodrygo as it’s a cheaper option and they can then spend on CBs as they need them

too.

Get the distinct impression that this whole situation is completely paralysing our transfer efforts. If I was them, I’d be accepting that it’s over, accept anything over £120m for him, and just crack on. We can’t allow it to drag.

Maybe that's the game all along. Anything to stop us. What with other clubs gazumping us. They (big 6) all in it together

If Newcastle agree to sell 25 year old Isak to Liverpool for anything below £150m, then some serious questions need to be asked.

We held so many negotiating cards on this deal. Not least, the 3 years left on Isak's contract and the Ekitike deal.

On Ekitike, as I said at the time, an obvious tactic would have been to tell both Liverpool and Isak that there would be zero negotiation on any deal if Liverpool proceeded to gazump us on Ekitike.

Admittedly not really having much of a clue regarding if this is feasible or not but he’s definitely away within the next 12 months. If not this summer then January or next summer. So we’re guaranteed a hefty bit of cash coming in soon. Can the club not anticipate that money and spend ahead now to get players in rather than just waiting for a sale?

Wild take, we had targets before Isak wanted out. Go and get them. Isak wanting out shouldn’t stop us signing a CB, CM and ST as a minimum.

You think it’s paralysing it now? You just wait until we have your £120m fee we should take sitting in the bank account, having flogged Isak, and then try negotiating with clubs. Every deal will be an extra £10m - £25m. You buy your replacements before you sell the prime asset. Or that’s at least what well run clubs do, not our current Billy Smart’s circus operation.

We have have got to get a Wilson replacement and a CB in with our existing budget before anything at all happens with Isak. Even if it means slightly overpaying.

Then if you can line up a couple of big signings to offset his impact - IE a top drawer high potential CF and a CM, and they're willing to pay upwards of £150 million - maybe you pull the trigger and do all those deals.

If you can't do that then you make him stay another year and go again. Simple as that.

If that happens 95% of people will forgive him, rightly or wrongly that'll be it.

All fair enough, but if he bangs 25 goals in for one more season then we'll all be happy, because that would benefit the team.

It wouldn't surprise me if our sole CB target remains Guehi, and that entire thing is also tied up in this same mess, with the player holding out to see what happens with Liverpool's spending first and whether they go all in with forward options means he signs for us as a back up.

It's fucking astonishing that we can't have gone and found a high quality CB with potential and bring them into the club like we did with Botman from a much weaker position three years ago. It is a notoriously easy position to sign quality in IMO if you have a good coach.

If our fans forgave Loic Remy they'll forgive Alexander Isak like. It would be inevitable.

£150 million, get it done, use cash to rebuild. The way Howe plays we’re always going to score goals, get someone in who will bag you 15-20 , and strengthen rest of the squad.

Players come and go, Isak is no different. But just make sure you take every single fucking penny you can get from those fuckers.

How many of the people who said the bits in quotation marks also caveated with the bit underneath?

So giving someone $40 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR might help soothe any bad feelings they have towards you. Top advice there, champ.

Right, you did see that he was NFL player? I feel like I said that but maybe you missed it. His contract was top of the table for his position but all they did was pay him as the top player for his position, champ. Obviously Newcastle don't have to pay 40 million for Isak.. not sure how that got misunderstood.

This. The club is a business and the only duty now is to get as much money as possible. Isak’s own personal unhappiness doesn’t factor into it. It’s £150m to get us round the table, as it’s always been. If that’s not forthcoming then he can get his head back down for the next few months.

The minute we demonstrate we can be led around by the nose by players and agents then it’ll cause us no end of problems. The worst possible outcome here isn’t Isak throws a wobbly and refuses to play - not a sensible move during a WC season, nor are you doing your own standing with potential suitors any good - but that we come out of it looking like soft touches.

I've no real worry for EH and the lads, as you say the way we play we will create chances for even lesser forwards, and our wide players chip in.

But this is our prized asset potentially on the verge of leaving, this has to be transformational amounts of money for nufc for this to even be a goer, considering how buckled we are by PSR etc. this is unfortunately the best way to fund the build.

Shite but thems the breaks.

It would be very appropriate if we are really shit at negotiating sales too and end up accepting the lower end of the prices mooted.

The Kelly deal would mean we're pretty good. Held out for Longy's fee too.
