Lowball bid on a Friday just to stir the pot - proves to everyone that they "mean business". The player in question sees the light at the end of the tunnel and digs in his heels. The weekend lets the atmosphere stew and get more toxic due to their pet journos stirring the pot with the claim that he's told our senior players to FO.

Just making sure that his position with us becomes more and more untenable and then return with a 5 mil bump next Friday etc.

past their peak? are you serious? it's impossible to know that. he's 29 ffs, not 39

Totally serious. Can't believe you are tbh, you don't make money on the best striker going to then go and spend half of it on a player we'd get nothing back from and will be done as a player in a few years.

If Isak goes, to me Ollie Watkins and Yoane Wissa are about as perfect as you can get to guaranteeing PL goals. Don’t get the hate at all.

Re: Watkins, I admittedly don’t fully understand PSR, but why would it be PSR suicide? £60m on a 29 year old who scores tonnes of goals… even if we get two good, European qualifying, years out of him and sold him in a couple of years for £40m… isn’t that better than taking a £70m risk on some random kid who’s had a decent season in Porto or Leipzig who may or may not become a great player?

I totally agree with all of this.

Watkins and wissa will

replace isaks goals imo, worry about the balance sheets further along the line.

use the cash to bring in a centre half and two midfielders and we’ll never look back

My point is we don’t have to sell Isak. Why should we have to spend £60m+ on a 29 year old. It goes against everything we do in the market just to placate Liverpool and Isak

I reckon it will end up around £130m and Nunez, I think Eddie could get a tune out of him, and then spend the rest on the Brentford lad, a centre half and another midfielder

Name the last transfer that involved cash plus a player?

New deal offered and 2026 release clause and still a no.

Thanks Alex, for absolutely tarnishing your time here and publicly doing a huge u-turn on a club and fanbase that adored you.

Get him sold, I'll drive him there myself.

I can guarantee that if PIF are involved in this deal we won’t be rolling over for Liverpool. They know how to play hardball in business.

Aye. Liverpool probably join one of their tournaments for free next season, or agree to a low sponsor deal.

I dunno about yous, but the last fortnight has turned me right off the idea of signing young players who we can sell on in a few years for a PSR boost.

Give me old cunts who we get sick of the sight of.

If we sell Isak for £120-130m and then spend that same amount to buy a 30 year old and a 29 year old I’m going to be greatly disappointed. And I don’t care about the amortization benefit in this scenario as we will have basically thrown it away anyway.

Watkins at the right price would be the best possible replacement imo. We'd of course have to buy again in a year or so, but the money would be there.

Tired of hearing of the whole thing tbh, if you could offer a scenario where Isak goes for £150m, and we bring in Watkins, Wissa and Paqueta I'd take it.

Not the Nunez shit again, for fuck sake.

Coutinho was 105 mil, seven years ago. Florian Wirtz was 116.5 mil this year. Isak is a world-class striker. Even with the player going on strike, we should laugh off anything less than 150 mil.

Buying young and selling for big money is what will make us grow but it needs to be done the right way. This potential Isak sale hasnt been done the right way for various reasons

As has already been pointed out in the thread, Watkins has already passed his peak (that goal in the Euros last year was his peak moment). He’s not worth paying anywhere near £60m.

The bottom line is that there is no adequate replacement for Isak available for a fair price this summer.

You're never getting any financial return at all I. Ollie Watkins. He's here 3-4 years until the end of his contract and he leaves for a nominal fee ala Wilson. If both CF signings are 28/29 age bracket and for nigh on £100 million it's basically FFP suicide. We can't afford to do that.

We have to mostly target players in the right age bracket, who can both contribute straight away but that can also be elevated - and accept every now again some will be sold and we go again. It's what has got us this success so far and it's what could sustain the club going forward.

Aye the fact people are comparing them to Ashley totally boils my piss. Not once have PIF been fucked over in a transfer and have brought in a lot of top class players, whose values have soared. Absolutely nothing like the Ashley era and people going on about it, deserve him to still be in charge. Absolute spoilt bairns to a tee
