I'm not disputing that a verbal agreement has been breached by the club, but 3 years left on a contract is a fair old whack and if it was Mitchell he has quickly been forgotten and that deal could have easily been resurrected with the new people in place. It's upset him but he's acted the cunt imo, the spirit Eddie and his staff have built in the squad is one of our great strengths and he's pissed all over it. That's why I think bumping up his money for a season is a farcical idea

It’s basically just unlucky if one exec promises you something then someone else takes a senior job and changes the position. It’s annoying but it’s not like we lied to string him along, we just had different people making the decisions.

"Promising" to give him a new contract just sounds so weird. Why not just negotiate and give him a new contract?

What/where's this?

Money and PSR?

I’m wondering if we’re bidding for Sesko to try to keep a hold of Isak too. Maybe one of Isak’s gripes is he’s alone up front all season?

Yep.

The club committed the original sin which should be acknowledged, but the Isak camp have taken it and blown it up well past the point of justified hurt.. especially since cause of it all has been sent to the dole line.

But it's how the situation will be resolved to save face if Liverpool don't come to the party.  A new contract with a bump in wages, smiles and hugs for a staged photo op with a suitable release clause inserted that becomes active July 1st (which we've already offered).

A tale as old as time in modern football.

Ornstein said new contract with a clause to exit next year but he turned it down.

Might be more amenable to it now we've told Liverpool to fuck off but who knows, depends if Sesko is actually just the replacement I guess.

I’d also make it so the release clause is only for European teams in the Champions League, and not English teams.

I think the contract fiasco, mixed with the Liverpool discourse and our lurching from one failed transfer attempt to the next made him think he was on a hiding to nowhere staying here. But the last 48hrs has really changed the landscape and if we can get Sesko in and a couple of others and offer Isak improved terms then this summer will go from a 2/10 to a solid 9/10 very quickly and I think Isak will be happy with that for this season at least and I think we should keep him.

With the new contract and being 'badly advised'....I'm guessing we were trying to wait until on results of this summer to confirm how high we could go with a new contract - he has 3 years left and we're obviously going to try and reward our best player. We thought we had time. I'd also guess Howe was assuring Isak this.

His agent took his opportunity to paint the club as untrustworthy and lacking direction - they broke a promise once, etc.
