That's a risky strategy. Unless they've had some "encouragement" from Isak.

Aye, I totally get that stance from the club, but if we're staring down the barrell of the transfer deadline with the prospect of either Gordon or Osula up front, hoping the snake comes out of his sulk... fucking grim.

Edit: perpetual npw

Club have no choice really now. We are struggling to replace Wilson nevermind trying to replace Wilson & Isak

They always had the choice. Don’t be fooled by the noise that they didn’t.

I think the fans reaction at the Liverpool will be interesting, does Wor Flags have anything prepared?

Hopefully not as thoughtless as it was at Villa. Played right into the agents and Liverpool’s hands.

Just concentrate on supporting the team and ignore the Isak situation until after the window is closed.

Don’t engage with Vox Pop from any TV broadcasters hanging around the ground pre/post game.

This!!!

At Villa, the situation wasn't mentioned after the concourse pre-match until the very last moment as the players were leaving the pitch. Of course Hope et al jumped on that one moment to craft their narrative.

Need to support the lads on the team, intimidate the opposition and let that other shit sort itself out.

I really cannot see how the whole reintegration thing goes.

I'm also not a fan of giving him any form of improvement on salary given the way he has gone about all of this. Tweak his contract so there is a release clause for next summer, yes fine, but no wage increase. If we were to increase his wages until next summer that would be completely the wrong option in my opinion.

And that’s all Sky and the journos need… the money shot. The fans foolishly gave them it.

Just put your emotions to one side and get through the window then see where we are at and whinge then if you* need to…

*Not you per say

Basically his agent massively fucked up advising him to sign a 6 year contract with little get out, if he seen Newcastle as a stepping stone club.

He should be following his agents advice a lot less rather than betting his career on his advice and burning all bridges on the back of it.

If Isak wants to be annoyed at anyone it should be Liverpool for buying Ekitike - that move blocked his exit.

Absolutely this and we can use it in our favour to reintegrate him, Liverpool took his replacement and then didn't value him well enough to make a half decent bid, they've not come back with more money or at any time shown that they value him anything close to how we value him and I'm not just talking financially.

Aye if we keep him here there's no chance he should get any kind of raise, I wouldn't even add a release clause tbh

As I said several pages ago, he's not our child to punish, he's a grown man who will understand the repercussions of his actions and I'm sure he'll be told in no uncertain terms how much damage he has caused. But there's an amicable solution to this catastrophe and that includes giving him closer to what he's worth in order for him to be fully committed at least for the season ahead.

It's not rewarding bad behaviour, it's compromising in a difficult situation, the decisions made by the club will be without emotional charge and it makes sense to bring him back on side.

Give him an improved contract.........extra £30,000 for every (non-penalty) goal or every win ?

I think £180-200k is reasonable. Probably the max we could pay but not too outlandish that we couldn't afford to budge the likes of Tonali close to that when it comes to new contract negotiations. Anything over that and the gap between Isak and rest becomes too mega, plus PSR.

We can't even secure one striker, let alone two. Of course we are standing firm. We aren't taking part in the PL for Liverpool's benefit.

I'd guess at thuis point its easier to get a Wilson replacement than an Isak one. Also a Wilson replacement isn't as pressing if Isak gives indications that he'll play if any move isn't sorted by the end if the window. One better than none so to speak.

TBH Osula could be considered a replacement for the Wilson of today. Arguably more effective on the pitch and much less likely to be laid up.

Say that with the greatest respect for CW who has been an outstanding PL striker earlier in his career, and also understanding that a new striker was needed in addition to Osula and Isac.

How much longer can this silence go on? It’s so bizarre. Everyone at the club needs clarity on what’s going on here. We keep being briefed internally via Edwards that he’s staying. Then briefed externally by the vultures on social media that he’s going. I wonder what the squad are thinking about how we’re going to set up this season. It has massive implications for multiple players whether he stays or not, given that incomings are looking unlikely / maximum one in I’d say

It’s not like we’re adverse to putting clauses in - Bruno had one, I think Sven had a 70m buy out if we weren’t in the CL after three seasons. If they’d asked for a 100m/120m release at the time we’d have probably given him it.

Perhaps that’s why they were annoyed about not getting a new contract as may have wanted to insert one?
