They also got a 4 point deduction for next season. That could get reduced on appeal, I can’t see they’d get reinstated. You simply can’t allow them to benefit from trying to cheat like that. Really feel for the fans and players though.

Yup. I think it’s probably the right decision anyway, but when you consider the incredibly slim margin by which they’ve even got this far I don’t think they’ve got a tripod leg to stand on.

Good news for any PL relegation contenders next season. Southampton have looked one of the better Championship sides in recent memory under Stephen Merchant.

I thought it was a bit overkill the whole thing until I read such blatant EFL rules were brought in to stop it. It's a bit pointless if they have no teeth.

Absolutely ridiculous way to torpedo your season mind.

Seems like the correct decision, but still feels like a massive balls move.

EFL not taking any shit, showing the Premier League how it's done.

Wow, really didn't think the EFL had it in them to do that.

They could still be hoping that the appeal saves them.

I'd sack the manager after this tbh, fucking joke of a decision to ask someone to spy on a training session. How much did they actually gain from doing it?

Didn’t win any of the games they admitted too

Feels somewhat shan Boro are the ones to benefit from sheer circumstance if it’s a repeat offence n all.

Still seems like massive overkill for me.

You think so? The game is on Saturday isn't it? Would be even more mental to U turn on such a big decision.

Another year in the Championship and their final allocation of parachute payments.

The amount of useful information you can gain from some video far away, would be limited to say the least.

Might get the starting 11, and formation if lucky. Which both would have been assumed anyway.

This punishment is very harsh.  Especially considering players sell/share this information without any consequences.

Boro could have been trying a new setup up, set pieces, patterns of play for that specific game. Things would do in the immediate run up to a game.

Had to be punished correctly and I agree that their manager needs hauled over the coals. It’s not even though it’s been a one off.

The appeal will be concluded tomorrow, but yeah it’s fucking shit for the fans.

Penalty takers outside the main 1-2, and which order they line up for them.

Set pieces I guess. But yeah, stupid.

Harsh? They’ve admitted cheating on multiple occasions. It’s absolutely the correct punishment & a deterrent.
