Needs to keep this standard now against better midfields.

But great to have another options in the middle that doesn't bring down the level.

But he is not a DM, just doesn't have that "bite" or aggression for me, a right side 8.

He's not a left sided midfielder either, so I'm still not sure how he would be a replacement for Joelinton. I always pegged him as more of a Bruno alternative, but he did a good job in standing in for Tonali yesterday so fair play.

He doesn’t need to be a defensive mid, he just needs to be ready and available to receive from the back line and GK, calm things down or speed up to get us up the pitch and cover for those making runs up + be available for chances like his goal he took. He played the perfect 6 role in Eddie’s system.

Not sure about that. Him and Bruno rotated a fair bit for that central role or seemed to.

The beauty of Bruno in the team is that rotation. I truly think Tonali should replace Joelinton in the team and we’ll have our best midfield 3.

I think MIley can probably operate across the midfield, just not sure about the left side role that Joelinton operates. I've seen suggestions by @STM for one, that he should replace Joelinton in the starting line up, but Joelinton does a lot of work out wide left, not sure if that is Miley's game.

Did I suggest Miley as LCM?

 

I love Joelinton but I like my midfielders to be able to retain possession, as much as regain it.

As previously mentioned he’s not my favourite player 

However credit where credit is due, he was very good yesterday 

 

Good delivery for goal , scored himself and was very tidy on the ball 

 

Got stuck in too

@JonBez comesock how do you rate his close control/ball retention. Looks elite to me and maybe even better than Bruno at times.

In hindsight the blooding he got 2 years ago looks like a blessing in disguise now. Howe had no option but to throw him into the first team and he's now looking like the CM we all hoped he could be, he's developing nicely and looks so calm and unflustered when he steps in and no-one is worried about him drowning under the pressure of big games or filling in for Tonali or Bruno or whatever. The players trust him with the ball and that's the biggest positive I can think of, they see how good he is every day and he's slotted into this group of full Internationals and doesn't look out of place in any way

I don't think Bruno would have the pace to get up and down the flanks tbh, bearing in mind Joelinton does a lot of covering for the wingers/full backs down the left. 

 

I'm not really a fan of square pegs for round holes in general.
