I find comments like this to be completely illogical

If you want to disregard the opinion of someone that doesn't rate a player because they aren't UEFA qualified coaches then equally you should stop sharing yours, unless of course you are a UEFA qualified coach?

There's opinions and there's folks thinking they know better than the manager, who he should sign. Especially after he's just sealed top 4 with a pretty ordinary squad of players on the whole.

It is absolutely ridiculous.

No. I watched McTominay a few times at youth level. He was good.

And you'd know this, because?

I've watched him enough to know playing as a number 9 is a specialist position and he doesn't have any attributes that would suggest he could play that position to a high enough standard

Nobody is disrespecting Eddie Howe man, that's nonsense

People don't rate McTominay, that's completely understandable

Otherwise using your logic, a guy that brought CL back to Man-U and ended their trophy drought would be willing to sell him, are you disrespecting him?

You can defend McTominay without resorting to childish arguments

Who don't rate McTominay? Oh. Right. Manchester United fans who don't rate anyone who isn't Keane or Scholes.

Yes. ten Hag has done OK. But his transfer dealings have been a bit of a shambles.

Who's arguing childishly?

I've watched him over 250 times for United and Scotland.

And in most of those games, he's played as a number 6. Yeah... he's not a number 6.

Again it's an illogical argument

Sir Bobby Robson signed Bowyer, a lot of fans said he was a shite signing, that wasn't fans thinking they know better than Sir Bobby Robson when it came to football, they just knew he wasn't good enough and it turned out to be true

As it happens I think McTominay has some decent attributes where he can be a useful player, the big thing Howe would need to coach out of him is the way he hides but that's definitely coachable. I just don't think it's fair to be so dismissive of people that don't rate him or think we should sign him. And to use shit arguments like "stop disrespecting Howe" or "What are your UEFA qualifications?" is just pathetic

To throw it in there, we don’t even know if it’s Howe specifically that likes McTominay, or the others in the transfer committee. Or even if any of them do and it’s just made up shite from Manchester or McTominays agent.

You are on a Newcastle United forum, I think you'll find the majority don't rate him

You clearly have an issue with Man-U fans, I think you need to take that up with them

By referring to UEFA licences you are arguing like a child

Howe should absolutely be respected for what he's done, that goes without saying, but let's remember Steve Bruce had a Uefa license. He was utterly shit and clueless, and I'll die on the hill that I should absolutely NOT respect his opinion. I don't think Uefa licenses in and of themselves prove much about anyone.

Yes. Because he's been playing out of position for a good chunk of his United career.

I hope this is all moot, as I trust McTominay more than I do most United players. And you can get your wish of not signing a player who scored a brace against Spain. ;)

And I'm out. If you want me back, turn the Bat Signal on. ;)

In closing. If Eddie Howe wants to buy McTominay (or anyone), then you should trust him, to the hilt. What the man has achieved with Newcastle, in a relatively short space of time, Is nothing short of extraordinary.

Also, I've watched Scott McTominay over 250 times. My opinion deserves credence.

The end.

It's not about who knows better about football, it's the fact that the manager has to be allowed to sign the players he wants to work with. Then he can be judged fairly on the results.

If he signs a bunch of duds and they flop then he's out. Simple as that. Don't see it happening with Howe though. He has consistently got the best out of the sorts of players a lot of you don't like, unfortunately for you lot. It is what it is though, these are the kind of players he has done well with.

We'll still have some players that are more like Isak and Bruno sprinkled in there too, but you lot are never happy unless every single player is of that type, but that will never be the case with Howe, so maybe you'll have to support another team while he's here.

Lazy comparison with Bowyer in my view. Robson was denied funds by the board at the time and Bowyer was available on a free wasn't he? Made a lot of sense on a free given that he had, for a few years, been a great CM in a great Leeds side.

Weghorst scored a brace in the World Cup against eventual winners Argentina.

Maybe Howe should replace Wilson with him?

You lot that are in seemingly every thread whining about McTominay and/or Gordon.

I haven't even whinged about McTominay in every thread so no idea what "you lot" are on about

You should try to debate the point rather than chucking nonsense about

As it happens I agree with you that Howe has earned the right to sign whoever he wants, I just think the way you and that Man-U fan are going about it is completely obnoxious

You are one of many and so I have thrown you all together because you all sound the same.

There is nothing obnoxious at all about what I have said regarding McTominay or any other player the manager has signed or wants to sign. He is an excellent manager, so I say let him get on with it.

It is tiring people going on so matter of factly about who Howe should be signing, like they know better than he does! I think that's obnoxious!

You're getting confused, your opinion on McTominay isn't obnoxious, it's you questioning whether someone that has a different opinion to you has a UEFA Licence, whilst presumably you don't have one? That's the obnoxious bit

No. You've missed the point I was making.

Ultimately you saying a player is poor and we shouldn't be signing them, really doesn't matter much if the manager doesn't agree with you, and wants the player signed.

Just because you think he's a poor player, doesn't mean that he actually is a poor player to everyone. I'm sure Howe and his numerous staff of analysts have their reasons for wanting him, if they are indeed interested. They aren't just a bunch of morons looking to sign 'shit' players like a bunch of you proclaim he is.

I really haven't

Using your logic we may as well shut all the threads related to transfers, we trust Howe/the club to do the right thing and that's that, end of discussion

Not this old trope again ...

Continuously complaining about how shit a player is that we have signed or we are looking to sign, is not a discussion of any kind, and so I am not sure what the point of continuously posting that sort of thing is.

Now, having said that, no one has asked you to delete your post, and neither has anyone kicked you off the forum for it. So by all means feel free to carry on, but in the same manner I'm just as within my right to disagree with your posts too, and so here we are ...

You've really got this twisted, at no point have I said you can't share your opinion or that you can't even disagree with people

I simply called you and your friend obnoxious because that's exactly how you were behaving, carry on for all I care, I just find it strange that you would behave in an obnoxious way but then get upset when you are called out on it but if that's your thing then carry on

I'm really not upset at all.

But we can leave this now, because it's getting us nowhere.

At this point I really hope we don't sign the guy, because this place is going to be unbearable if we do.

EPL class isn't enough for us anymore. We need CL class now.

And anyway, loads of players make lots of appearances for clubs despite not being good enough. Shola Ameobi played nearly 400 times for us and was consistently terrible, he was almost never good enough for us even when we were awful.

Looking online, most Man U fans seem to think McTominay's shit and want rid of him, and are begging us to give them £30m+ to take him off their hands. That tells me everything I need to know.

I think very few would think he would be a star player for us.. Again, that's not what this is about. Howe said in an interview that what he wanted to improve was squad depth. If you burn all your money on 2-3 expensive superstars, you don't have any money left to spend. I don't understand why it's so hard to get around the idea of buying a player for rotation and competition within the squad. I agree that 30m is maybe a bit much, but if we get him for less I wouldn't be against it. If we get a couple of injuries in the midfield, even after buying a big signing in midfield, we're left with playing Joelinton out of position or playing Eliott Anderson. Is Eliott Anderson a Champions League player? With more games comes more injuries and fatigue. Obviously.

And by the way, Longstaff has been important, but we saw him as someone who needed to be replaced not long ago. One of the reasons why we did worse without him was the fact that we had no replacement and needed to move Joelinton into midfield. Especially Longstaffs shooting has been abmyssal, and McTominay has a decent shot in him. Longstaff is not very good at passing either. I don't think that Longstaff is a Champions League player, and if he was playing for Manchester United their fans would probably also want him gone.

I've already said my main problem is removing £30m (or whatever number) from our transfer budget and adding it to that of a direct rival.

If he was a superstar they couldn't replace, fair enough, but the general perception is they're going to use that money to go and buy someone better
