NUFC Transfer Rumours

That's very reasonable. In my opinion we need to either be quick and decisive with 'cartel targets', or go for ones they might not so readily go for. I understand and probably support the first approach, but you HAVE to be fast and pay what's required early on, or you'll miss out to the cartel. I think our club has been made to look stupid this summer in this way, and last.

I do have hope and some cautious optimism for the rest of this window, I'm just frustrated by what I'm seeing. I imagine Eddie is too, but feeling frustrated doesn't sign players. We need to pull finger.

In reality there is no going fast with cartel targets.

The players agents will have an idea of the cartel teams that are interested, and as soon as we come in for the player, they then leak the info to try and get those other clubs to come in too, so they can get more competition and leverage that for more money.

In the big leagues, are there plenty with the quality we need? Serie A almost nothing, La liga not many, Ligue 1 got Kalimuendo, Bundes ones are going to Liverpool and Bayern.

Sesko, Openda, Woltemade, Ramos, Guessand, Kalimuendo. Kean.

Off the top of my head.

I'll consider myself told.

I agree with a fair bit of that. Maybe I should have said, "CAN be a weak cover for". Might have been less inflammatory.

I just think the club are saying the right things in interviews etc but then we're really not backing that up with action, in regards to transfers primarily. I'm not arguing it's not hard, but I'm arguing we're not doing things as well as we could.

I feel bad now  . My snarky tone was more in response to the recent waves of negativity about our transfer strategy .

It’s been a brutal summer but I still like what we’re trying to do. Think we all just  hope we get what we need before the window closes.

About the same options I had in mind. Sesko and Woltemade looking like they are off to other clubs. Ramos is staying put. Kean, Openda and Kalimuendo looking like the most realistic of that bunch.

If we're backing out of these deals for monetary reasons, I sort of think - given we're seemingly not moving decisively/quickly for other positions - we may be winning the battle(s), but losing the war.

Hopefully I'm making unfajr assumptions. Time will tell I guess.

Indeed, no hard feelings. I probably do go in to bat for the 'glass half empty' viewpoint rather a lot, because I think a lot of people resist negative possibilities almost to a fault, which to me is unconstructive.

But yeah, we need balance, along with objectivity. None of us have perfect insight.

By the same token,

people who just focus on negative possibilities can’t appreciate what’s right in front of them, or are just miserable a lot of the time.

I also find that many pessimists still suffer from serious disappointment despite bracing themselves for it.

Some of those I expect are clearly too expensive or the wrong profile of player in another way, but I like to think there are economical options around to suit some of our needs (that aren't DCL).

What’s all this ‘cartel clubs swoop in once we’ve identified a player we want to sign’ narrative. The cartel clubs do have scouting teams as well, probably better than ours.

It’s quite obvious we can’t compete with those clubs yet in the transfer market - apart from money (PSR), London is a bigger pull and Liverpool and City have very recent success in the top competitions.

It’s not rocket science and nowt to do with us being slow.

Much rather we took a punt on a young upcoming player from abroad than got DCL, he's got to be the last of last resorts

Being honest here, I’m gunna start wetting the bed somewhat. Wouldn’t be surprised if we just end up with Elanga and go into this season light as fuck. We’ll hear the usual noises about a “Saudi tax” and “PSR” restraints but really this has come down to glacial recruiting and unambitious targets. There’s also an element of us not paying the going rate. £40m for a young, proven, talented keeper like Trafford ain’t completely stupid money. He’s at the age where he could be between the sticks for the next 8-9 years at top level. Very short sighted to let this one go.

As for the rest of the team that needs strengthening - the panic might just set in when Schar and Burn start collecting their pensions. But I don’t hold out much hope.

I find the whole “unambitious signings” take a bit odd to be honest.

Every player we’ve been heavily linked with so far is going to clubs that are either historically bigger than us or paying well beyond the budget we've set. That’s not a lack of ambition — it’s just the reality of where we are financially. If anything, we’re trying to shop above our current means, and that comes with the risk of missing out unless we sacrifice elsewhere, which wouldn't be smart.

We will get what we need. The strategy seems to be going early, which unfortunately exposes us a bit — makes it look like we're losing out — but it also forces other clubs to play their hand early. That could seriously limit their flexibility later in the window. If something interesting pops up toward the end, we might actually be in a better position to pounce than most.

Also, missing out on a top 9 or 10 doesn’t worry me that much. If that money gets redirected into a quality CB or CM instead, I actually think it raises the team’s overall ceiling more. A better-balanced squad >>> one marquee attacker, for me.

Even if we just got ourselves better bench options ( We've already got a decent first 11) we would be in a much better place.

Plenty times last season the drop off in subs was massive - for instance look at Villa, good first 11 and they had tidy options off the bench as well to change things.

I was given a copy of the Sun so take with a full shovel of salt.

As I'm bored, according to them, here is Chelsea's bomb squad and what they want;

N Jackson £60m

J Felix £35m

C Nkunku £35m

A Disasi £26m

T Chalobah £40m

R Sterling £20m

B Chilwell £15m

C Chukwuemeka £40m

R Veiga £30m

L Ugochukwu £20m

K Dewsbury-Hall £30m

I wouldn't deal with them anyway, just shows how they've messed up buying too much or wrongly and not playing them, as that lot in total cost them about £340m, apparently.

Sterling's career has really tanked since he left City

You can be optimistic all will be solved in the remaining weeks of the window, but questions still remain as to why the first half of the window has been absolute garbage for the most part.

No. They don’t. We know why.
