He may be better off signing a pre-contract and moving next summer for free to Liverpool or another major European club where he can earn at least 100K more a week than he would earn at NUFC. Alternatively, Liverpool lowball and Crystal Palace reluctantly accept in the end. These two scenarios are far more likely than Guehi turning down lucrative offers at more prestigious and higher paying clubs to join NUFC. Jesus Madrigal, who pissed on your chips? 😁
toontownman
We are clearly just waiting til we get to Asia before emulating the Shearer signing of 96 and bringing in a worldie. Just no Bangkok this time.

Why would he be less interested when we're in the Champions League than when we weren't in Europe at all?

Came up on holiday to caravan at Amble and now hates fish and chips, kippers and brown ale. Only interested in pie and liqor, over priced calamari goujons and fizzy lager. Hates the north… allegedly. Madrigal
8 minutes ago, KennyUtd said: Jesus Madrigal, who pissed on your chips? 😁 . Just being realistic. This summer has brought most fans down to earth and we have to accept that if we cannot offer premium wages to premium players who are courted by other big clubs then most likely: a) we cannot sign them b) we cannot keep them I would love to proved wrong on Geuhi. Right now whenever we are linked with players these days I would always ask the question "Can we offer higher wages than the competing club?" If the answer is no then it doesn't matter if they are going to be on bench of the competing club they would 9 times out of 10 choose them over us. If, for example, AC Milan matched our offer for Sven Botman a few years ago (including wages) then Botman goes there no doubt. The same applies to all the players we love: Bruno, Tonali, Isak for a Top 6 club. There is loyalty and then there is financial security. Younger players especially would seek financial security in a sport where your career could be potentially cut short. In Wissa's case there are a number of factors that put us in realistic contention: 1) This is his career peak at the age of 29 - best time to ask for high wages (wages which would not break NUFC's structure). He could wait to go next year but who knows what could happen e.g. injury or no offers from Champs League clubs next summer 2) No other club are in for him. They say Spurs are interested but I feel they are stacked in that area. If Spurs do come in then he goes to them with the nearby London and possibly slightly higher wages being major factors 3) Slight factor - Newcastle could provide an easier path to Saudi and higher wages should he wish to do so in the next couple of years. He will also get significant game time here.

Interest from other parties who can offer significantly higher wages. A year is a long time so things can change. It mainly always boils down to money. Guehi can either jump from 50K to circa 110k here at Newcastle or to 180K+ at another club
Holmesy
It'll be the same dance again - get to the talks stage, Chelsea/Liverpool/Man Utd come in for him, offer higher wages and we'll be back to the drawing board

STM
My view on Guehi is that he'd be crackers to leave Palace now. Wait a year, have loads of options and take a juicy pay cheque. There's not a side in the league who wouldn't take him in 12 months and its not as though hes miserable at Palace.

Of course we will but we're competing at the top table now and we don't have the resources to match the competition - location, money etc. They're the reasons we've lost out to rivals so far - Ekitike, Pedro, Delap. I'm not saying we won't sign anyone, but the moment we go for a top player in a position the cartel are trying to strengthen too, we'll probably be second choice again. gbandit
Am I right that in the last 24 months we’ve signed the following players to the first team? Lewis Hall (almost 24 months ago in reality) Tino Livramento (almost 24 months ago) Lloyd Kelly on a free Will Osula (a development player for up to £15m) Elanga - £53m Odysseas Disappearimios - £25m Harvey Barnes - £38m ( 24 months ago) Sandro Tonali - £60m (24 months ago) And from the first squad we’ve lost: Wilson - on a free Lloyd Kelly - for £20m Miggy Almiron - for £12m Sean Longstaff - for £12m Yankuba Minteh - for £35m Elliot Anderson - for £35m Ryan Fraser - for £2m? Allan Saint Maximin - £23m?
