I’d advise anyone to watch McGinn’s performance against PSG at Villa park last season in the CL QF before dismissing the idea. Immediate improvement on longstaff, willock and miley. If Arsenal did this instead of Norgaard I suspect people on here would say “why aren’t we making that move?”

Are you serious?

You could say exactly the same to anyone re: Longstaff. Watch his game at home against PSG

Expect McGinn is actually a very decent footballer, if he’s Longstaffs replacement for a decent price it wouldn’t be a terrible move even if not quite what we expected.

Squad is going to be on its knees by November at this rate. Players run into the ground, young kids expected to do jobs they're not ready for and a huge disappointment in the CL and league too. All the ingredients are right there, this summer is the first domino to fall. They've collectively fucked it and I'm as sick as fuck about it. This is going to set us back to square 2, 3 years of progress thrown away in just a couple of months. Fucking livid with them

Ahahaha he is absolutely shit, I mean so shit. Limbering lump in the midfield runs around a lot. Fuck this

You don’t think “absolutely shit” is a tad OTT?

I remember watching and thinking he was playing well. I’m sure he scored a screamer. A lot of times I’ve watched them I’ve thought ah he’s a really good player. Ba

Mcginn would immediately improve the depth and talent of our midfield options. Price dependent, of course.

Yeh that’s fair. I think I’ve seen mcginn play well enough times other than that match. Maybe I’m insane or wrong on the player but I think it would be a great buy, depending on the price.

It's completely salvageable. Still time.

he’s… fine. A decent top half PL player, for sure.

But I imagine taking Villa’s captain - who has played 103 games for them over the past two seasons - off them is going to be £30m+, and he isn’t the sort of athletic profile that is going to be able to play in midfield in the PL for much longer than the coming season.

To me he looked plenty good as recently as last season just gone. I agree that it would depend on the price.

While I agree in theory they don’t seem capable of concluding deals effectively. Based on what you see / know is that an inaccurate or unfair stance?

Problem is the whole sport know we're absolutely fucking useless, the prices will go through the roof, agents will take the piss and exploit the incompetence we've shown all summer. That's all assuming we can even get them to the table in the first place.

Difficult to come back from this level of shite. The time is there to salvage it absolutely but the decisions they're making are so bad and random it gives off the impression they're now panicking and there's zero strategy nor ability to get shit done. I know I'm catastrophising but I'm struggling to see anything else atm

Eddie Howe is going to have to bail them out AGAIN. It’s inexplicable to think we won’t sign players but any feel good, momentum has completely gone. It is typical Newcastle could have this summer after the best season in living memory

McGinn is Villa's captain, it's just such a bizarre move that seems extremely unlikely. He'd be a good raise the floor stopgap signing and a brilliant character to have around, but couldn't see it happening at all.

Not if villa need the funds and want to build and identify a soon to be 31 year old with prem and champions league experience as a big enough hit instead of one of the young "stars".

That or the player fancies a new challenge after 7 years but suspect its the former.

As with all of this when it comes to older players is it BDB or trips money or is it 30/40m why you not getting a young player from europe money.

Its been a shit show, but I cant see them self sabotaging a CL campaign and the league. Who is going to come in I have no idea, and it looks amateurish and poor, but there is not a chance we can go into the season with this squad.
