I like Tonali where he is. He’s arguably the best in the league playing as a cdm, so why move him?

Or keep him where he is - Camara is very versatile and gives us quite a few options

I wouldn’t say we even play with a CDM, maybe one of three is nominally told to play more defensively but you’d hardly notice at times.

Surely we're active next month, aye?

If we don’t buy a left back then you need to ask questions - Miley at RB at least gives you some depth

Then a CM ideally with Willock being binned

And Osula sold and replaced by a forward who can give us something on the right aswell

 Mad isn't it. Tino, Trippier, Krafth, even Ashby all injured at the same time. Lewis Miley is a miracle tbh, the holes he's dug us out of, man.

Spoiler

That boy is gonna bring us soooo much PSR dough.

Very true, something I overlook tbh. From him coming in and looking like he belonged in the Champions League a few years ago, to now filling in at right back superbly. You would consider it an achievement for a youth player to come in and do a serviceable job, so it's quite remarkable that he's looked accomplished more often than not and made massive contributions to a quality team at the highest level of the game.

Very, very roughly we've earned the following money we likely didn't budget for:

  • ~£4m in LC home games
  • £6m in CL win/draw bonuses
  • ~£5m in league phase bonuses (absolute minimum assuming we finish top 24)
  • ~3m extra CL home game (again assumes top 24 finish)

Now if we actually finished 11th in the league we'd give two-thirds of that back in lost PL revenue, but the table is so tight we shouldn't be worried about that. Considering we're still in four comps and there is real financial upside to be chasing I really hope we're ready and able to spend.

Seems to be 3 young midfielders the top clubs are eyeing up in Europe which may give us a sniff with Kees Smit if we move fast and AZ are willing to deal.

The 18 year old Ayyoub Bouaddi at Lille and Konstantinos Keratsas at Genk, all seem to be hot property and on radar of top clubs.

Along with Lamine Camara there’s some good opportunities to get a top young midfielder this January.

Never seen or heard of Keratsas, but if he doesn't end up at Brighton next summer for £19m plus future sell-on clauses, I'll be stunned.

More of a winger, immense skill and vision. Played Scotland twice and tore them apart, i thought Robertson was going to retire after one game against him.

As with all three of the players mentioned we will be competing with clubs who will offer crazy money, our selling point needs to be easy access to 1st team football and a manager who develops most plays who play under him.

Is there any concrete evidence that there is an intention to buy in Jan?

Just doesn't seem to be something Eddie likes doing. Gordon was our last first team buy in 2023 and it took him 5 weeks before he started his first game.

I would like us to buy someone who can make an impact on arrival, think we need a bit of a lift but that would mean buying top quality and those are generally not available in Jan, especially in a WC year.

So I am expecting nothing to happen.

The club will never come out and say as much. Journalists seem to have been briefed we're after a full back and a midfielder though.

And if Osula goes, which seems to be the case, we may need to bolster the front line. Really not keen on Gordon as a CF option.

We get linked to the same players as the big 6 clubs, but if we want to be smart about PSR we should be coming over the top of clubs like Palace, Brentford and Brighton.

Depends where we want to finish.

I get the point though, a few of their signings could do well here.

The championship has been wiped recent seasons. Nothing really stand out that’s been similar before, and we’ve gone beyond some of them with our signings. For example, the likes of Jonathan Rowe were low cost, but we went for Elanga because they rightly had the output in Prem.

So we don’t really have the squad places anymore for low cost. It’s now starting quality or raw youngsters.

Yep. I don't mind being linked with these players but as soon as I see Arsenal or Chelsea are in the mix I switch off.

I think we really need a specialist defensive midfielder we can bring on to shore things up. Yes Tonali can do that role just fine but he’s covering for 3 and it’s not quite working currently.

We need more pace/strength in there, someone who can just play it simple and retain possession etc.

Ultimately shoring up the midfield will give our defence a break and make their jobs easier.

The GK position is also something that needs addressing, Ramsdale has messed up a few times, and Pope will never be able to kick properly. Can clearly see now why EH has favoured Pope, but it’s still a less than ideal situation.
