NUFC Transfer Rumours

Problem is that the only place who could afford him and want him would probably be the Saudi clubs. And we all know that we're not going to be allowed to bank any kind of decent fee for him as it falls under that related-party stuff, the rules simply wouldn't allow us to do it even though other clubs do. It's rigged

We can still bank it with the league can’t we? Just not with UEFA if we qualify for Europe, but we will only be fined if we go over with them.

Wig we don’t sign a minimum of one then Howe is being hung out to dry. Really we need two. Left back and creative mid.

If he wanted a creative midfielder he would of signed one in previous windows when he has the autonomy to do so, he prefers high work rate midfielders.

Evidently he does but at the same time, you need your wide players to provide that and none of them do. There are far too many players who can't force a defence to react. Eventually he'll have to come to terms with that, Klopp to me has similar ideals ( tactically) but he eventually realised the football had to evolve.

If he wants a creative midfielder, he will get one, especially now that he has, in Ross Wilson, his own hand-picked sporting director in the role.

That he hasn't so far is because he hasn't wanted that sort of player. Rayan Cherki was available for the best part of 2 years, for example.

Grealish is another who I think would have done very well for us.

The problem is we’ll almost certainly get fined for a UEFA breach at the end of this season already (because the Anderson money doesn’t count because it’s deemed a swap). The way it tends to work is we’ll agree a financial settlement agreement with them in relation to it but those settlement agreements tend to contain large future fines for non-compliance. Villa’s agreement last year saw them get a £4m fine but with a settlement agreement that would see them fined £17m if they breach again. And if they breach again, it wouldn’t just be £17m because that just relates to the agreement of their past breach, they’d be fined again and have to agree another settlement agreement. So you’re looking at a circa. £25m+ bill. And that fine gets booked on your losses for the financial year (which impacts both league SCR and UEFA SCR), effectively reducing the amount you can spend further. So we are probably not in a world where we can just ignore UEFA rules moving forward.

Grealish came up to Sunderland to go on the piss and watch the derby with Pickford. He’s a surrogate makem.

Agree with this. We've barely been linked with any for years - Maddison a bit and then El Khannouss tentatively. I don't think he wants one, and it fits with the theory that he prefers tall, fast run-about-a-lot types to actual technicians.

He needs a creative attacking midfielder, arguably more than any other position. Games today and yesterday only 2 teams played 433 and one was arsenal, most the rest 4231 as best structure to play, we need to move away from the 3 flat midfield, link man links 2 in centre, wingers and striker and will be crucial for us. I do think Hall could play there, he's got the technical ability, passing and dribbling as well

Not a rumour, but would anyone be happy with Wojciech Szczęsny? Think he'd put our GK situation straight. How shit it is, and all need to go. Him coming in would do for 18 months. Find someone to take over when he retires.

Watched him play for Barca and he was horrific - stay well clear

Gregory Kobel from Dortmund - now that’s a keeper

It’s pretty clear that wholesale changes are needed in the summer but in Jan we could do with additions at full back or a creative midfielder if we could get either, those positions make the most sense this upcoming window.

We definitely need a new number 1 GK, there’s a chance Tino might be off, Schar will probably go and there’s question marks over what happens with Botman. The midfield may well need revamping as Tonali and Joelinton will almost certainly be off for different reasons. Wingers wise there needs to be a change because it’s gone stale. I’d imagine Barnes will possibly want away to get more football if Gordon continually starts ahead of him but personally I’d move Gordon on if we could get an upgrade. I just think none of our wingers really give is enough goals or creativity.

Any transfers lined up ?

I’m sure @Kaizero had some ITK about a similar deal to Minteh where we were going to sign some kid from a Scandinavian club. Other than that it’s been the tattle Douglas, Hope and co have been peddling about younger profiles of players from continental Europe.

I don't think anyone who comes in will a "season saver". They'll be young cover for full back and midfield.

We need a striker - simple as.  We're getting enough balls into the box just there is no one there to finish them. We need to go all out to get one in Jan.

We have Wissa, absolutely no need once he’s fit. The problem is the rest of the pitch before it reaches him.

We’ve just spent c.£120m on two of them, there is zero chance we go and buy another one in Jan.  We also don’t have the headroom - and the club must be recalculating the season’s income at present, given there’s a chance we’re currently sitting below their ‘worst case scenario’ league position.
