And something all 4 of those have in common that Newcastle don’t is plenty of PSR headroom. Why you bothering comparing I don’t know. We should be comparing our activity to Villa, and maybe West Ham and Spurs IMO.

No idea what sort of player you could get to do that and how much they would cost. I guess being versatile means we can fit them into the starting 11 more often. AyeDubbleYoo
The pursuit of Pedro was definitely interesting, assumed we wanted him and Elanga rather than this being a change in direction. So that does suggest some kind of change of approach, at least in some games.
andycap
Out of the teams that finished with the champions league qualification We have done the least transfer business when in fact we need the most. I reckon about 8 players would be what we need to have a strong squad to compete on four fronts this year.

I was saying that previously, the deck is so stacked in their favour, the fact we've won a cup and finished in the Champions League twice is outstanding. The financial aspect due the big 6 bollocks shows in the buying of players, they can take punts, whereas we have to be careful as a few poor buys could screw us. It's a ridiculous state for the Premier League to carry on denying is set up to protect clubs, rather than to protect the septic six Edited July 7, 2025 by Bimpy474

Think we should compare ourselves to those who performed best in terms of asset appreciation, so long as the asset reached a level to be useful to us. Forest, Brighton, Villa, Brentford. Forest and Brighton had their targets ready to go and faced no competition.

nufcjmc
what we need and what we get are clearly two different prospects media reports of 100/125m before player sales and needing to bid 55/60 for Elanga and 25/35 for Trafford doesnt leave alot of room for a RCB and back up striker let alone midfield recruitment which I suspect will only be subject of willock and longstaff going anyway likewise LB would only be reviewed on Targett going. Ellis H
We’ve been competing with those “untouchable” clubs for the last 3 years despite spending very little comparatively. Maybe if we spent the money that’s now there and backed the manager we’d be able to do even better instead of just making excuses about PSR and acting like it’s a closed shop. We’ve finished 4th and 5th in the last 3 seasons, got to a final and won a trophy so it’s absolutely isn’t a closed shop.

kingxlnc
The biggest concern is how they've never changed that 105M loss allowed by PSR - which is just two first team players in this day and age. It's such a low bar and extremely restrictive, not been fit for purpose for years. How you're supposed to buy 6-7 players in this day and age, I suppose its possible as Forest did it but there's a difference between operating at the top of the PL and the bottom. To stay in the league, you're paying a top end of £30m. £20m is probably the average player. Top 10, you're now looking at 35m being the average, with the odd 45 and 50m player. Top 6 and now the average is 40m, with a 60m player or two. We've been operating in this bracket mostly. Top 3 and it goes up to 50-60m average player, with the odd 70-80 and even 100m players. Man U, for years have been buying at a top 3 level even though they're more like a top 6 or top 10 team. So for us now, we're trying to go from a top 6 profile to a top 3 one with how we've previously been spending. Explains why Elanga, Olise, Pedro, Mbeumo, Hujisen, Guehi etc were all £50m-60m bids Edited July 7, 2025 by kingxlnc
nufc123
We need cover for Isak, RW and CB. By reports we are trying for Trafford. Thats four players. Going into a CL campaign Howe either has to rotate Longstaff/Willock and trust them a lot, or we have to find someone he trusts.
ponsaelius
We need 4 or 5. Any more and you risk unsettling things too much IMO - even acknowledging we've done nowt for 2 years. Less than 4 quality signings would be poor show.
