No, Sean is quicker than Bruno, I know Matty has gone but I struggled to think of anyone slower, maybe Ruddy. Take a football away from Bruno and he’s an uncoordinated mess. Can’t even throw a dart.

If we sign Ekitike, I think we'll forgo signing a central defender for decent money this window. Even more so if we sign Trafford.

 

There was times last season when Schar was really starting to creak. Going into such a long campaign with just three centre backs, one of which has had quite a lot of time out and the other two aged 33 seems like quite the risk?

 

They must really, really like Ekitike. Would be wild if we signed a defender too like. The perfect window.

Get those four priority positions signed before jetting off to Asia
Add a CM later in the window after shifting a few players
I genuinely think Newcastle win the league

I agree - much rather spend whatever is left (if indeed we push the boat out for Ekitike and only have cash for one more signing) on a CB, and stick with Popey/Dubs for one more season. That CB better know how to pass it out from defence though, all that terrifying pace in the front 4 will be wasted with Pope kicking the ball out into touch every time there's a chance for a transition.

Interesting profile

From the top brass at St. James' Park, they are keen to bolster their forward roster during the final weeks of the transfer window. Their main target and priority is Eintracht Frankfurt player Hugo Ekitike, for whom they have reportedly mobilized up to 90 million euros . However, the Magpies are one of the worst-placed teams in the bidding for the French striker's future, so they are already looking for an alternative solution in England .

If we say spend 200m this summer, but nothing the next 2 summers (without sales) what position does that leave us in?

 

maybe we are willing to spend big now, and are confident that the next few windows will only need a few additions, or confident of a sale, or could it be that else have new sponsorships etc in the pipeline and we are just spending in advance?

Can't get a French striker from a German club, so we are looking for an "alternative solution in England" by considering a Brazilian striker who doesn't want to leave a Spanish Club, aye. [emoji38]

Maybe the gamble is on trying to get back to back champions league failure to do so could leave a crop of players wanting to move on anyway which would fill the budget back up through player sales.

 

I would rather be in the drivers seat here and sell who we want rather than have to sell to balance the books. However we aren't capable of fighting on multiple fronts without significant investment so I think now the time appears to take the risk. 

 

Hopefully things from sponsors/improved accounts proves some of the journos peddling 100m budgets as just untrue from the get go rather than the situation evolving out of nessecity I.e. losing out on cheaper targets such as delap.

I don’t think we can go into a season with CL football with the CBs we have now. Way too risky.

We have to take a risk and maybe club are thinking of we go big and build a strong team/squad options we can focus on younger up and coming next few windows plus have a lot of value in the club.

 

Maybe after this window more cordero, Minteh types and developing academy/u21 players. 

 

If we have a shit season then as said we have valuable players to dig ourselves out of it.

We definitely need a centre-half, no doubt at all. Hopefully if we sign Ekitike it doesn't mean the budget has nowt left. 

 

I wonder if that given his season was decimated by injury last year, we could try to loan Scalvini with a relatively hefty loan fee, but with an obligation to buy next summer if he plays a certain amount of games.

Not just players, we have women’s team and other infrastructure we can sell to ourselves.

 

Plus we wouldn’t need to do any of that until next June when we know what position we’ll be in for the following season.

 

Plus FFP is a bit of a mess with last season’s ATP rulings and other case progressing this year.

 

If ever we want to take a FFP risk, now feels this time to be doing it.
