This is exactly it.

 

If a player is playing poorly, they are dropped for an alternative. If (as all aspiring top 4/5 sides should) you have more than 11 starting-quality players, a player can be left out of a starting XI without being "dropped". The term carries negative connotations. 

 

If we had Joelinton, Tonali, Bruno, Gallagher then we would pick the optimal three (or two) depending on how we plan to play and/or relative fitness levels. Assuming they're all playing well, nobody is being "dropped".

Think everything will have turned out very well if we end up with Ekitike this summer. Wasn’t overly fussed on Elanga at the start, but his interview was superb and I’m back tracking on that view quickly.

 

I would say Sesko is more similar to Pedro in style and we’ve scouted him heavily by all accounts. Probably more expensive than Ekitike and out of our range, but wouldn’t rule anything out, think where going for it this summer.

I get your point, but some people don't want Joelinton in the side outside of being backup to another CM and in some tactical matchups because of his iffy passing.

I'd say he was dropped. 

 

When Wilson started instead of Isak against Brentford 3 days before AC Milan was Isak dropped or rotated? Similar for the game V Palace before Dortmund.

Watched Downie's vid from his channel, thought it was decent actually. 

 

All focus now on the striker (he predicts it gets sorted by or during the Singapore tour). He thinks we should go all in on Wissa as he'd do a great job as backup to Isak, would play lots and offers something different. Ekitike ego could be an issue if he's not starting every game.

 

Defender gets sorted near end of the window.

 

Trafford happens but not the priority right now.

He does say he hopes we don't chase a lost cause and lose out on a Wissa while we do so.

I thought that was interesting. If you believe the reports of us only negotiating for one player at a time.

It would be amazing. I guess it depends on who we negotiate for. The bigger the deal, the more agent fees and add ons etc makes the talks go on for a lot longer.

Aye, more than likely Trafford. Eddie has his two long term targets then.

 

This is probably the most excited I’ve been pre-season. There actually seems real impetus to improve the squad now the PSR restraints have been loosened a bit. We’re 2/3 players away from a really exciting first 11. We’re probably 4/5 away from a really gifted squad with some element of rotation without the quality diminishing.

It is annoying that we take ages to get deals done. I don't expect 5 transfers done on the first day of the window but there seems something inefficient about our processes all the same.

It's easy to buy 6x20 million players from clubs eager to sell and the fan base get all giddy.

 

It takes time to buy 3x60 million players from clubs who are not so eager to release.

 

They have to sort things out their end as well in finding cover etc.

 

Sometimes they even buy players first knowing they will be selling to us later.

 

Then there is the Chelsea model where they don't care and just blow everyone else out of the window and the selling club think the deal is too good to turn down.

 

So fingers crossed it all works out

Have we finished in the CL spots twice in the last three? Yeah we have. Do we have the spending power of our would-be rivals? Absolutely not.

 

We have to operate in a different margin than the clubs we want to usurp. We can’t buy the players they do, at the pace that they do. We can’t buy players at the pace that the clubs we deem inferior to us do either. 
 

We have to be so specific and dialed in when we buy that we don’t get to bring a lot of dudes over the line. But I’d argue that the guys we have brought over the line have been of such insanely good quality that we’re still going to end up ahead in the end.

It is difficult to know whether time sometimes taken is because we’re trying to pry good players away from clubs who don’t really want to sell (at all or at the price we want to pay) on quite complex terms on a very weird budget, or because the internal mechanism at our end for doing so is comparatively slow. I think a combination of all 3. Perhaps also not being as high on PIF’s list of priorities as we want.
 

They’re tantalisingly close to delivering a brilliant squad, it’s oddly nail-biting in the slowest of ways.

Feel like I need my next fix but also the club has alot to do incomings and outgoings it could all come together and fall like domino's ie dubs goes if Trafford comes in, longstaff sold allows a midfielder to come in etc. 

 

But silence is awful, rumours dried up and activity seems limited..Hopefully its  because it's all hush hush but that's more of a hope than a certainty is it around 6 weeks left of the window?
