The good news is Hope claims we have a shortlist.

The not so good news are that McGinn and Rudoni are the only names mentioned to date

Rudoni would be a an interesting one, some exciting  talent has came from the championship such as Wharton it’s just is he ready to step in now

£60m for Jackson is a better deal than Wissa for £40m IMO.

I’d actually reluctantly agree.

we’ll get players in but this window is setting us back. Average signings and Isak going.

Except Wissa is the replacement for Wilson and Jackson is for Isak (potentially).

It's a distinction without a difference. If we let Isak go (which I don't think is going to happen), we'd have to sign another striker (or sign both of these two) anyway.

100%. They're about as good as each other right now, they just contribute in different ways. And there is some upside with Jackson while there is none with Wissa.

(I guess Wissa would be on substantially lower wages).

It’s the dip in quality with Isak leaving that will hit us like a tonne of bricks.  We have a really good team but this summer was all about ADDING that game changing quality.  We haven’t so we are lowering the quality and it’s going to show

On the flip side Isak was fairly anonymous post cup final and we still looked a good side. He is just one player. We won’t get someone as talented, we just need the goals replaced. And that can be from two players.

He's 29 years old there is basically zero chance that we ever have the chance to sell him for more money than we paid.

Its the only downside compared to Jackson. I was talking about the football side of it.

It's mad that in the three months we've gone from being known for shrewd, smart transfer business, to being arguably the biggest meme in football at the moment for how catastrophic and seemingly haphazard we've suddenly become in that department.

The inability to correct that perception is becoming more embarrassing by the day, to be honest, and surely must be filtering through to our players and our transfer targets too. You can't switch on talksport, sky, or browse social media without being hit in the face with how much of a mess our window has been. The optics are terrible.

WTF, I mentioned his name.

Perhaps a reasonable response would have been "I know we are looking for a goal scorer and looking at the top scores across the top leagues in Europe and he was the top in France, HOWEVER because of his past actions I don't think he would pass the no dickhead policy and I'd rather we weren't associated with him"

I never said we should sign him, I mentioned his name.

IMO the abuse I have received is totally uncalled for.

You've received no 'abuse', and certainly no more criticism than you deserve.

It's a proper West Ham list that. Unless we're completely hoodwinking journos, I don't see how anyone can defend a shortlist that's literally limited to UK based players + Ekitike & Sesko, who we've looked at in previous years.

And no, I'm not going to suggest anybody before anyone asks. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and there might be one right out the blue like Isak/Tonali/Bruno sort of were, but I fear those days are long gone.

but he will likely get us goals and has a good injury track record, something Wilson could no longer do. He's good enough that we could bench Isak if he continues throwing tantrums. the only real drawback, and it's a big one, is AFCON. But Wissa has demonstrated that he is an absolutely massive improvement over this version of Wilson.
