Jackson and wissa equals no strikers during AFCON doesnt it?

We’re currently looking at no strikers for the season tbf. See who wants to stay next summer if that happens.

The worry is undoubtedly the impact this summer has had on morale around the club.

Given that we're very much a team that thrives on momentum, the ineptitude at executive level might well have a detrimental impact on the pitch

That feels inevitable, One man standing in the way

No, but as a modern football club, we need to consider criteria other than "who scored more goals last season."

a striker with a good injury record is a massive criteria for us after dealing with Wilson. It's more of a stopgap signing, but it could seriously benefit us for a couple of seasons.

Did we peak too early? Like from relegation candidates to CL within a season might have knocked something off in the equilibrium. Then we started thinking, “shit, we’re here now, we need to stay here,” so we try to compete with the cartel which we can’t do.

Maybe a more gradual ascent would have been better.

Or not. I don’t know. Just trying to make sense of this current shit show.

There's always the nuclear option in getting that cnt from Marseille.

I mean, how much worse could our club image be

For clarity, who did you mean here ?

I can understand the difficulties of getting a quality striker (to some degree) but I find it absolutely astonishing that we haven’t managed to get a CM or CB in yet. Had we got those two in already then there would at least be some time left to get another couple of deals in. I know there’s still time left but I’d be shocked if get enough bodies in.

this is the most egregious thing for me right now.

The thought that we are ignoring actual areas of need, to work the phones feverishly to bring in strikers far down our list, so this cunt and Liverpool get their dream move.... its fucking beyond infuriating.

We shouldn't care what his opinion is. We tried to replace him, missed out on our targets. Story is closed for this summer. Honor your contract and we can try again next year.

Go get Wissa or Jackson as the Wilson replacement.

That should be our official line. We are inviting the chaos onto ourselves with our own behavior. We look so weak and dysfunctional. Genuinely unbelievable after how the season ended.

You misunderstood, I meant i didn't post it for a cheap laugh as some suggested.

The charges were dropped so technically he isn't a rapist, and it wouldn't be the first time a lady has thrown accusations.

Maybe he got away with it, or maybe he's one of those unfortunate people that has been targeted by a liar looking for a payday.

I'm just playing devil's advocate mind.

Signing any names on that list :okay:

I could accept any on that list as the Wilson replacement, but for Isak we need something much better or with a higher ceiling, I still have my heart set on Samu

My worry is that with all these rejections, Eddie may think that he's done all he can for the club and can't take them any further forward due to the lack of quality signings. It must be fucking with his head.

Just when momentum was with us, won a Cup qualified for CL somehow the club has managed to bring back Ashley levels of ineptitude. People are actually getting paid big bucks to do exactly the opposite.

Shameful.

He seems fairly cool with the situation when talking to the press however it will be interesting if the England job comes up next summer.

Strategy #1

Target players your main rivals are going for, ensure that you’re either outbid or the players don’t want to come to you in the first place

Strategy #2

Your star striker wants to leave, begin panic approaches late in the window when selling clubs know they can squeeze ridiculous value from you. Sadly you don’t have quite the same leverage with your own player because he’s crying to the press everyday that he wants to leave

Strategy #3

Don’t strengthen the squad in areas where you know you can. Wait until late in the window when the players you want won’t be released by their clubs

Conclusion

Give yourself a pat on the back for another day smashing the window out of the park. Chuckle at other clubs that have brought in players that were their first choices or areas they knew they had to strengthen. Remember that we’re going into a champions league season with a squad that hasn’t been strengthened for two years and without a striker and enjoy a few old fashioneds and a glass or two of Cava before calling it a night and checking DCL’s status
