The Prophet
That just reads like fluff from the Mail to keep the clicks rolling in. I'd be amazed if we tried to low ball Leicester if talks are advanced. I guess Arsenal did with Rice.

If the 25 million bid is true, you would imagine there are a few achievable add ons included to take it up to around 35 million.
TK-421
Tell you what, if we do get Barnes for £25m, then Spuds weren't that far away when they (allegedly) bid £50m for him AND Maddison!
BGRM
I'd be very surprised if we get Barnes for £25m. But, this would be the bargain of the summer.
Tina Tooner
25m would be unbelievable business. I cant see him being offered more than double his current wages so just say it is 80k a week. That would be roughly 20m over a 5 year contract. So could only be a 9m hit from our transfer balance. Edited July 9, 2023 by Tina Tooner

At that price, it’s probably why the club/Ashworth, see it as an opportunistic move, rather than a priority move. A great year or two for us, posting similar numbers, and he’d still be only 27 (prime). Be worth £50m, and great for FFP further down the line, when we begin and are able to turn over the squad, like Chelsea/City do. All about squad building now. Which I feel he could do consistently over a season. I just don’t see how Barnes starts for us in the big games. If this is a squad signing and he’s happy replacing Anderson’s and Ritchie’s minutes then fair enough but you want to be paying nearer £25m if you possibly can. Sounding like a £25m squad filler I was thinking it might be. No brainer if so…
Zero
I take my words back. 25m is fine. I would have him now. I was expecting 40m. 25m for a quality cover is fair enough.
Pilko
£25m feels like much better value than the £35m+ that was initially quoted.
Alberto2005
Very surprised if we get him for less than £30m.
El Prontonise
Suspect it's £25m and a few addons

Maddison had one year left on his contract. Barnes has 2.
ponsaelius
No way he's coming for £25 million IMO.
alexf
There would be loads of PL competition if he was going for that price. Although we do have the Champions League trump card
Pixelphish
Great signing. Yes pretty one dimensional but we're not in a position to be turning down opportunities like this. Thrilled tbh. Edited July 9, 2023 by Pixelphish
Kanj
Am skeptical about this - could see us walk away from the deal if they want more than our valuation.
Yorkie
If we get him for a fee small enough to enable us to sign an additional established quality player in another position, we've moved from no-brainer to be-rude-not-to.
morpeth mag
I suspect that we have agreed with Barnes and his agent that his future is at nufc. His agent has just told Leicester their negotiating should be solely with nufc. We have leaked the £25m offer to manage expectations so that £30m with add ons becomes attractive. joeyt
Might just be a common Football Manager thing but wonder if we can try and target players who have a release clause which can only be activated for clubs who are in the Champions League
samptime29
Even 30M is fine tbh in this market.
Viana
I think we’re trying to go lower for Barnes knowing that the lad from Frankfurt (Lindstrom) is still an option.
Whitley mag
Sounds like this could run for a bit, especially if West Ham come knocking with the Rice money burning a hole. If Leicester know West Ham are interested they’ll play hard ball and it might take 35 million to get this done, in which case it comes down to how badly we want him. SUPERTOON
I’d be shocked if we get involved in any sort of bidding war for a player we aren’t in desperate need for.
