Harvey Barnes

Raheem Sterling scored a ton of goals like those two for Man City. Basically a back post run.

Wilson's not really been much of a provider in his time here, but he did a great job yesterday and now has someone to provide it to. Isak also excels at bringing others into play.

You can absolutely guarantee that ASM wouldn’t have scored 2 goals yesterday. Barnes is also more direct in possession, he’ll only try and beat a player once and team mates will find him easier to read and link up with.

He could make quite a difference for us.

Agree, I don’t think he would have too. On the flip side ASM can create chances Barnes can’t.

Totally different players with different skillsets.

Both players require attention from defenders for different reasons. The fact Barnes is quick and can finish means he’ll pull defenders towards

him opening up space elsewhere. His finishing ability will be a real concern for teams though.

Finally an intelligent comment which isn't just aimed at just slagging off a former player.

Comparisons are inevitable, but it's a real shame we couldn't have both Barnes and ASM.

Gordon and Barnes both look good options for the left who offer something slightly different. Tough call, but it seems Gordon will get the nod next week.

Oh great, Barnes has a good game, and things feel positive, but then some have to engage WUM gene to re-litigate ASM vs Barnes

Yeah, I can’t be arsed with it either.  It is possible to have enjoyed ASM’s time at NUFC but be happy that Barnes is onboard.

Wilson’s pretty clinical when it comes to assists tbh. Got 5 last season. Underrated part of his game imo.

Was I the only one thinking ASM would’ve be perfect making those right wing runs and low crosses to back post for Barnes? ?

We never played ASM on the right enough. Remember him putting quite a few goals on a plate for Wilson from the right.

Aye, he wants the ball in the net first and foremost. He'll most likely put it on a plate for someone in a better position if needs be. Like he did for England in that friendly.

Yeah he's very unselfish when it comes to that..he knows instinctively what the better opportunity is and won't hesitate to play the pass. Team player!

It was notable in his few England minutes in the WC that he was always trying to lay it on for others where he could.

The real question is what is the point of Anthony Gordon for £45m? Eddie Howe likes to start players off slowly so there was little possibility of him making a big difference the second half of last season.  We could have had Moussa Diaby for a little more than AG cost.  Harvey Barnes, Isak, and Diaby on the front line means goals.  Also, not worth it to dump ASM for that small fee. We sold a lw and still go four deep at the position (AG, HB, BigJoe, Isak...throw in Anderson too if you want). Odd strategy. Last year everyone thought Spurs won the off season/transfer market, and we know how that worked out.  I hope we get some help for the back line.

We signed him because we wanted him. We would have signed him this summer but he was available in January. We’re building a squad.
