Just lost his shooting boots lately. His overall performance isn't horrible or even anything close to that, just as always with Barnes, if he isn't assisting or scoring there isn't as much to his general game compared to Gordon for example. Which is why he was always playing 2nd fiddle to Gordon in terms of selection over the years because clearly Howe preferred Gordon's all round game and liked Harvey as the finisher to bring on later in games.

I think he's fine and just needs a goal to get back in the groove.

Gets his belly tickled here, 'a bit out of form' or 'not quite up to his usual standard', 'looks a bit tired', 'poor lad shoved out on the right' etc etc. He's been quite  ineffective of late, not sure he's done enough to warrant a start tbh, but he's the obvious choice while Gordon is preferred up top, so I hope he can get back amongst the action where he's at his most dangerous

Its probably not the (main) reason, but he seems to have dropped off since getting moved to his supposed favoured position, on left wing, with Gordon up top.

We got anyone else we can stick on the left (seeing as we'll probably stick with Gordon up top), and hoy Barnes back on the right, see if he left his scoring boots over there?

I feel like he’s just not very strong or athletic (or maybe assertive) so he needs space and time to play well.

I rate his ability very highly but there seem to be loads of times where he just can’t impact a game.

Elanga's played there.

I think he was ok last night, what you can't take away is that he keeps trying to be direct, that's always his main thought process and I love that about him. Aye, he's fluffed some chances lately but his effort and drive is still there.

He's worth keeping on the pitch in games like that, where he isn't having a great game overall, because he's so reliable in front of goal

Yep. He even fucked it up but still scored.

He’s one of those - you want him to get 3 chances. He’ll score at least 1. He’s got good feet usually when it matters. Lil those couple of times Osula made a good run he couldn’t get the ball under his spell. Barnes can usually sort his feet out in those situations. That one that hit the post - the ball was a bit underneath him but he got it out and had an excellent effort. He’s got mobility, decent touch, a strike, decent movement. Leave him on - his moment will come.

The season's pretty much done. Might as well hoy him upfront and see what happens. Doesn't do enough down the wings for me. Team is too right side dominant at the minute when it comes to creating chances.

Even when he‘s having a poor game or has supposedly ‘disappeared’. He is still usually our biggest attacking threat. Regularly getting shots off or trying to work space for a cross.

Hit the post and scored. So if that’s a poor game against Barca. Then he’s not bad.

My only real gripe with him is that he sometimes has an extra touch and gets his shot/cross blocked. But all of our wingers are guilty of that, bar Murphy. He is the polar opposite.

He's a really important player for us... even if he's having a quiet game.

Ps. he was another one of the players down with the vomiting bug... he was still throwing up in the early hours of the day of the City game but then was judged to be OK.

Think he'd have scored earlier if Elanga had crossed it in one touch sooner during one break.

I love the guy, he's like the modern era Robert in that he can go missing for ages or nothing will come off, but will pop up out of nowhere for you.
