RB Leipzig 🤣

Scouts from Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona have been closely monitoring 21-year-old England and Newcastle defender Lewis Hall. (Caughtoffside)

Absolutely no way Dortmund could afford him either (or at least not without completely smashing their transfer record and the associated policy/model that they adhere to).

He'll almost certainly start at the WC, and given he's one of the most eye-catching fullbacks who can actually defend, his price will sky rocket before next season. He's a fiend for making last ditch Inceptions/headers/off the line blocks etc too, I think he'll really stand out.

Cucurella was £63m, he is arguably 2nd best left back in the league after him.

I don’t think Hall is off in the summer, but Lee Clark joined Sunderland from us; owt is possible

It’s small club mentality that we haven’t tied our best players up, or at least made offers improving their terms. If they don’t sign we need to shortlist replacements. Don’t see Hall leaving though, hopefully we get a bit longer snd he brings us further

Yeah I'm absolutely sure that these discussions go on a lot more than we are told, they just won't always be reported. I know for a fact that a senior player a few years ago agreed and signed a new multi-year deal and it wasn't reported on or announced until almost a year later

We've announced 2 major contract renewal post-Ashworth (not including Tonali as that was Ashworth's time)

Botman & Gordon.

People are right to be concerned because we delayed with Isak. Tino hasn't been announced.

Unless they're offered a massive pay increase, any player (and agent) worth their salt will refuse to sign a new deal until they've got 12-18 months left (max) because that's when they can start to extract the best price from their current club.

I'm sure overtures from the club happen all the time, but I can imagine that the response is normally just a flat "no".

Yeah and Tonali's wasn't revealed/announced until much later. Not saying we shouldn't be concerned about it, but I'm sure talks/negotiations are and have been ongoing for a while

But a previous regime did the Tonali contract.

The Ashworth/Staveley era is proven functional for signing quality players and getting contracts renewed.

This is a new era. Theres no credit in the bank.  Even the Botman deal would’ve been made easier due to injuries and relatively low stock.

Announce Tino, Bruno G, I wouldn’t worry about Hall. As it stands I’ve no reason to believe the contracts will be signed. To just enjoying this team.   I always thought Isak was the first domino of this team being disbanded.

It’s a guess based on the fact Isak wasn’t extension talks long before it became an issue. Its documented that we refused to offer terms when he’d been told an offer would be made. Mitchell had come an decided that wasn’t happening until it was good for Mitchell. Add to that we haven’t extended key pieces, some of whom have played to a level where they should be payed more. Hall, Tonali, Bruno…possibly Tino and  Gordon.
