Will Osula

In a game that has become rigid, formulaic and pattern-based, a bit of 'what the fuck is he about to do' could be the answer. He's a throwback and it's fucking great to see, but it could also be why he hasn't kicked on in the modern game. He clearly has the talent but maybe not the discipline to fit into rigidity, which personally I fucking love. Unpredictability has always been a positive asset in football - do the unexpected - but it feels like it's largely been coached out of the game. Get him on the pitch more often and let him loose. Don't tell him what to do or where to run. Stick him on the pitch in the right situation and let him go mental.

Like a jack in the box.

He's like a chaotic, possessed Stanley Collymore

Saw him described this way a few times, and also need to bear in mind some strikers develop later in their 20s, like Vardy for example.

What I did not realise until I watched the goal again (multiple times) this morning was that Osula was the player that won the ball on the edge of our penalty box and layed it off to Trippier before setting off on his majestic run down the right.

Will be surprised if this is not Goal of the Month for March.

Yeah it's a good shout because he is a similar stamp physically to Stan, although O doubt he'll become anywhere near a clinical finisher as him. I've always thought he's worth hanging on to,to see where his development leads.I bet he's feeling the love right now,the mad bastard

Too focused on the finish to miss the state of Malacia getting sent by the stepovers  He just stands there and gives up.

You cannot convince me a team that employed flair wouldn't go 38-0-0 right now. TWO stepovers.

The majority of the highlights are snipping that part out. Crazy, as it makes the goal even more special.

Just came in here to post exactly this.  Didn't realise in all the pandemonium that it was him that held it up, laid it off to Trippier and then got on his bike to run the channel.

So happy for him.  He often looks good in cameo roles, full of energy, bit of chaos, the odd trick, raw speed.  But then gets the chance from the start and looks terrible.  Before he finds himself back on the bench.

Never impacted a game like that and against such strong opposition, though.  The Liverpool one doesn't really compare and we somehow still lost that!

I'm hoping he can carry on being the super sub or at least a genuine option off the bench in certain games between now and the end of the season.

Is Wissa now our 4th choice striker?!

Vardy was absolutely banging them in from every angle in his early 20's. Just because he wasn't doing it in the premier league doesn't mean his instincts developed later. Bit of a myth that he only worked out how to score goals in his late twenties :D  He's been a better than 1 in 2 striker since he was 19.

Ben Arfa in this era gets about 50 goals a season

Common example but Drogba at age 24 had 15 career league goals to his name (3 in the top flight). Moved to Chelsea at 26 after scoring 36 over the next 2 seasons in France.

All off wiki so might not be 100% accurate, but he was definitely a late bloomer.

Highly recommend watching all of the replays of his goal in the extended highlights at 0.5 speed like. Razor and Ando will sound like they've had 20 pints, but the angles are amazing.

This one especially

That's fair, FWIW I do still think Osula lacks the predatory instincts of a natural striker. He's just not in the right place a lot of the time.

But he's only 22 and he's definitely got some pace and power to his game, and from yesterday's showing, he can hit a canny strike as well, so I am willing to believe he can improve on his movement.
