Fully understand some of the reaction after the way things went last summer with him and the way things have been this summer.

But look back at the first few pages of this thread, and how excited people were.

He’s still the same, very good, player.

I’m not sure it’s his quality as a player people are concerned about. If he’s our main CB target though, and we’re going to wait until late in the window it’s bit of a worry. I don’t think a new centre back is optional tbh. We’re desperate for one.

£50m sounds steep on paper for a player with just a year left on his deal.  But if we’re serious about building a top-four defence and Guehi is the profile the club want - quick, composed, Premier League-proven, homegrown, strong in a high line - then waiting 12 months because it looks like better value is a risky move.  In 12 months, there’ll be a scramble for him. The “cartel” clubs will come in with bigger wages, Champions League football, and he walks for free. We don’t win those battles.

We’ve seen how good recruitment has put us ahead of schedule. If Guehi is the first-choice target and open to signing, why roll the dice on a second or third-choice alternative now just because they’re “better value on paper”?  He’s 24, fills a need, and gives us 6-8 years of service. That’s worth the premium, and it’s still cheaper than overpaying in wages and agent fees next year.

We have recruited well over the last few years, but this sticking to PL players is slowing us massively. We didnt get where we are by just looking as proven PL players. Arguably our best buys have been from abroad...Bruno, Isak, Tonali. Weve had reasonable success domestically but not as good

£50m is certainly not fine for a defender with one year left on his contract.

£50m gives us a chance of signing him, £0 gives us next to no chance since we won't compete on wages. It's either this summer at a cost, or never.

Probably going back for him as he was pretty much decided he was coming last summer, no? The off pitch stuff was probably thoroughly researched for him ?

Our Liverpool humiliation kink knows no bounds.

I'd be stunned if Guehi didn't just run down his last year.

It would be somewhat ironic if we bid decent money for him, and Palace end up actively trying to get him to sign for us so they don’t end up with nowt.

He's quality, just annoyed us because we didn't get him. But that was Palace's fault anyway, no need to hold it against the player.

tbf considering our set pieces he scored more goals for us last year in a Palace shirt than he would have in ours.

To add on, we better have a back up option because it went put all out eggs in the guehi basket again for it not to come off again then that would be rather stupid.

imo We need to just move on, the Guehi shit is weird as fuck. There isn't a good defender in South America or Africa?

I am completely indifferent to us signing him, good player but I’m burnt after last summer.

I wouldn’t really want them to pay £50m but it’s also not my money so what do I care.

Was just thinking the same thing. Accepted by Palace but then rejected by the player

50million, sign on a 4 year deal, player of the season and then force a move to Liverpool next summer. I'm all in.

Turn 50 million into 100 million plus the 150 for Isak next year. They really are an investment fund.

It would be interesting (well probably not really, as it would cause a monumental melt down), to see what Palace would do if they accepted a decent offer but he said he wanted to stay put.

I genuinely don't have the fucking strength for this shit. Might delete my account.

Honestly, if there was a safe option to be put into a coma for the remaining of the month, I'd snap your hands off.
